Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the role of literary work, especially a novel in reflecting the social fenomena, the juvenile delinquency in the twentieth century. The data source was an English novel ‘Clockwork Orange’ written by Anthony Burgess. The research applied library research by using reflection theory introduced by Georg Lukacs. Analysis was presented in three parts, those were the identification of major character, social setting, and the reflection of juvenile delinquency.The findings were as follows. First, the major character was Alex as his hig intensity in all the events that build the whole story. Second, the social setting described the life of teenagers, especially the juvenile delinquency as social fenomena in society. Third, the role of literary work in revealing the problem above faced by the twentieth century society. Finally, it can be concluded that the literary work has played a very important role in revealing the social fenomena.

Abstract

Research deployed translation issues, mainly concerning from semantic and pragmatic aspects. Discussion was started by stating the importance of linguistic aspects comprehended and applied by a translator, such as grammar, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Research presented six meaning problems in translation, those related to lexical meaning, grammatical meaning, contextual meaning or situational meaning, textual meaning, socio-cultural meaning, and idiomatic meaning. It can be concluded that the ability to apply linguistic aspect both from the source and targeted languages take important role to produce a good translation.

Abstract

Kegiatan penerjemahan serta kontribusi para penerjemah memiliki peran penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas manusia Indonesia melalui karya-karya terjemahan yang baik. Karya terjemahan yang baik dapat dihasilkan oleh penerjemah yang memiiki pemahaman dan penguasaan aspek-aspek linguistik yang baik. Dengan memahami dan menguasai aspek-aspek linguistik, khususnya aspek semantik dengan baik, penerjemah dapat menghasilkan karya terjemahan yang memiliki makna yang sepadan dengan teks sumbernya. Makna - makna yang mungkin muncul dari sebuah teks diantaranya: makna leksikal, makna gramatikal, makna kontekstual atau situasional, makna tekstual, makna sosio-kultural dan makna idiomatik. Sehingga, jika seorang penerjemah dapat menangkap makna - makna yang muncul dari suatu teks bahasa sumber, maka seorang penerjemah dapat menyampaikan makna - makna tersebut dengan baik ke dalam bahasa sasaran.
