BBC Learning English video is one of the alternative tools that can be used by early childhood learner to build their vocabulary. This research aimed to draw the use of BBC Learning English video for building early childhood learner’s vocabulary. The study employed qualitative research design. The method of this study was case study. The subject of this study was a three-year-old child. The collection of the data was through observation. The researcher asked the child to watch BBC Learning English video and guided the child to memorize the vocabulary on it by repeating the vocabulary. The data revealed that BBC Learning video gave positive impact on building early childhood learner’s vocabulary. By using BBC Learning English video, a three-year-old child could build his English vocabulary. Moreover, the video also helped the child to pronounce new vocabulary. The implication of this research was early childhood learner is able to produce new English vocabulary.

Abstract

Education in remote areas, specifically concerning literacy, has emerged as a critical issue on the Indonesian government’s agenda, with an urgent need for effective intervention strategies to initiate and sustain literacy movements. Addressing the unique challenges of geographic isolation, limited resources, and local community engagement is pivotal. This study investigates these specific literacy challenges, focusing on remote regions by examining the experiences of three education volunteers in Seram Bagian Timur Regency, Maluku Barat Daya Regency, and Wakatobi Regency. This study employed a narrative inquiry approach to explore the literacy challenges and volunteer experiences in remote areas of Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the constant comparative method to detail the complex interplay of volunteer background, motivations, encountered obstacles, and community-driven solutions that bolster literacy efforts. Our findings delineate four critical aspects: 1) the diverse backgrounds of the volunteers initiating literacy movements, 2) their intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, 3) the barriers they faced including logistical, cultural, and resource-based challenges, and 4) the significant role of community empowerment in overcoming these barriers and sustaining literacy initiatives. This research suggests that promoting literacy in Indonesia's remote areas can serve as a model for similar efforts elsewhere, ultimately contributing to regional educational development.

Abstract

This study examines the urgency of developing short-serve skills in young badminton athletes, responding to critical problems in the form of low accuracy and consistency of serve identified in 65% of U-13 athletes. This phenomenon has a significant impact on competitive performance, considering that short-serve is a fundamental element that determines the early momentum of the match. The investigation used a 2x2 factorial experimental design, involving 32 U-13 male athletes from the Sukoharjo badminton club who were selected through purposive sampling. The research subjects were divided into four groups based on exercise methods (mass and distributed) and initial ability levels (high and low). Data collection was carried out using a Fenanlampir short-serve test instrument with a validity of 0.66 and a reliability of 0.70). The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for normality, Levene’s test for homogeneity, and hypothesis testing was conducted using a dependent sample t-test with a 5% significance level. The results indicated significant improvements in both training methods, with massed practice demonstrating higher effectiveness (N-Gain Score 57.81% for high ability and 42.6% for low ability) compared to distributed practice (39.69% and 20.89%). No significant interaction was found between the training method and initial skill level, indicating the universality of the effectiveness of the massed method. These findings contribute to the development of evidence-based training methodologies, with practical implications in the form of recommendations for the implementation of massed methods as a core component of young athlete coaching programs.
