Abstract

The word used "in the image and likeness" in Gen. 1:26, is an expression or phrase that is only found twice throughout the entire Bible, where the second is found in Gen. 5: 3 with the exact same phrase, even though it is the subject's description is Adam (not God). This study will explain the differences and similarities between the two expressions in each context, and then to clarify the truth of two contradictory statements: "does human have the image and likeness of God" or "does human have the image and likeness of Adam"? To investigate the most appropriate answers of the two statements, the writer will search, quote, compare and infer the rationale, views, interpretations, commentary, also look for the meaning of the root words in Hebrew, Greek and English. The conclusions of this study will explain the position and status of believers today as descendants of Adam who are again referred to as children of God, and which are renewed constantly to reflect the increasingly greater image and glory of God.
