Abstract

In general, the main problem of domestic wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for office buildings in Jakarta is the incompatibility between the surface load of wastewater and the capacity of WWTP. At the beginning a capacity of WWTP is already predetermined and corresponding to the rate of wastewater generated. But because of the demands of the means for the benefit of various business, so that the capacities of the office building should be developed. This case occurred on PT. Usaha Gedung BDN. Four environmental parameters, namely TSS, Ammonia, Grease & Oil and COD, produced from the WWTP still exceeded the allowable quality standards. Therefore PT. Usaha Gedung BDN immediately needs WWTP capacity development plan which is adequate. Various types of technology have been widely available and ready to be used to overcome the problems of the WWTP. But on this occasion it is advisable to develop the existing WWTP facilities by adding a new WWTP unit. The first WWTP is functioned as the preliminary processing unit and the new WWTP will become an advanced processing unit. The use of a combination of anaerobic-aerobic biofilter will be relied upon to reduce pollutants that can qualify water quality standards in accordance with applicable regulations.keywords : problem identification, domestic wwtp, advanced processing

Abstract

Management of a catchment area should be done properly. For an example, there is no doubt a big mistake has already been done by the local government of DKI Jakarta in managing the 3 catchment areas, such as Ciliwung, Citarum and Cisadane. The management of the three catchment areas is coordinated by DKI Jakarta, together with Province West Java and Banten. The local governments do not have a consistency in planning and developing their region, especially for the supporting regions located in theupstream area. The effect is a big flood happened in Jakarta on the first February 2008. For the small catchment area, such as Cantiga, it is a good example to be discussed. The catchment area is located in district Pondok Aren. Flooding continuously happens every rainy season. The seven causes are no sustainable development program, no cleanly way of life, no good drainage system, unconsistency on regional planning and development program, no intensive conservation program, land subsidence and very high amount of rainfall. To cope with the flood problem and to carry out the flood control action, many consistently applied programs have to be done, ie. sustainable development, mopping up way of life, water front village concept implementation, one river one management concept implementation, artificialrecharge ponds and ground water injection.

Abstract

Nowadays raw water resources for drinking water are less and less available, especially in Jakarta. For example, the condition of most rivers in Jakarta is extremely polluted by wastewaters, such as domestic and industrial wastewater. Some of industrial wastewater straightly discharged into the rivers are classified as  toxic and hazardous wastewater.  Therefore all rivers in Jakarta are not feasible to be used as the raw water for clean water treatment processes. Even ground water is not already safe to be used as the raw water for drinking water, because it has commonly been contaminated by seepage of septic tanks and polluted surface waters. Because of that, many people living in Jakarta tried to find other alternatives. Commercially sold mineral water is one good option for supplying drinking water need, but the prices are relatively expensive for most of people. There were more than 1,000 refill drinking water depots growing in the last ten years. They are one of the best answers to many people, but the quality of drinking water is still debatable. In other word, there is not a standard regulation for the water treatment processes, so the depots cannot guarantee that the produced water already fulfill the quality standard of drinking water. In order to give a good service for community living in Jakarta, it is very important to evaluate all aspects of technology, management and services.  Keywords : Refill drinking water technology, water treatment processes.

Abstract

In County South Bengkulu there are 4 villages classified into poor villages. Those villages do not have some principal facilities yet, such as clean water supply system and electricity. To fulfill clean water need, the people use shallow groundwater which has very bad quality. The groundwater contains Fe (1.7 ppm) and Mn (0.7 ppm). The contents are much more than the standard quality allowed by WHO. The groundwater colour is also a little bit brown. To deal with those problems, BPPT (Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology) has tried to apply a water treatment system which is supported by a solar cell system producing the electricity. The electric energy is used for pumping the groundwater. The water treatment has a mainly important process which is accommodated in a multy media filter. The media include coarse coral, find coral, sand silica, manganese zeolite and activated carbon. The media filter can reduce the contaminants (Fe & Mn) and remove the odour effectively. The complete water treatment system has been applied successfully in the 4 villages (one for each village).    Keywords : Clean Water Supply Technology.

Abstract

The number of crude palm oil factory (CPOF) in Indonesia has already increased rapidly in the last fifteen years. In the same period, expansion of the palm plantation has also been continuing and growing, but unfortunately the accelerated growth is not same as the development of the wastewater treatment technology and its proper applications. Many CPOF in Indonesia have not a good wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In fact they cause terribly environmental problems, especially related to surface water pollution. BOD content in the effluent of most CPOF is between 35,000 to 46,000 ppm and in the effluent of their WWTP it is much more than 100 ppm. Therefore it needs to propose a treatment system which can guarantee to reduce all pollutants till a value matching with the environmental quality standard. Based on the research result assessed by BPPT, an ideal WWTP suitable for CPOF is promoted to be considered as one very good alternative which is better applied for all CPOF in Indonesia. The stages and processes are showed in the second  figure. Key words : Ideal treatment, CPOF wastewater

Abstract

Water pollution because of the domestic wastewater produced by the local community and their home industries in a big city, such as Jakarta, has already been inviting many environmental problems since the last ten years. Based on the research done by Directorat General Cipta Karya, Public Works Department RI, domestic wastewater in Jakarta delivers 75% of all pollutants in surface water pollution. Therefore many things should be done to solve those water pollution problems. A lot of environmentally related rules have established in Indonesia, but they are not able to be optimally implemented because of some weaknesses of the environmental rule contents. One of the solving options is to create a perfect regulation system for wastewater management. The laws for home industry wastewater management, especially in big cities, have to be perfectly completed, mainly in the field of standard, operation and procedure, the wastewater quality standard, the adequate and qualified technology, the landscape and building planning and the institutional coordination. If the all environmental regulations are well synchronized, the law enforcement will be simply implemented. By applying them consistently, the water pollution control will be handled well. Keywrods : Environmental Regulation, Home Industry Waste Water, Institutional Coordination

Abstract

Hospital is playing an important role in serving people who need to get health. On the other hand its occurrence causes some problems as well. One of them is the infectious wastewaters which are potential to cause a dangerous effect for human life. A lot of hospitals in Indonesia do not have the proper wastewater treatment plant yet. The local hospital of County Timika has already had a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), but until now the capacity of the unit can not fulfil the required level of environmental standard yet. One of the problems is the technically improper treatment processes. To solve the problems, the WWTP must be redesigned and modifief by using a combination technique of anaerobik and aerobic biofilter treatment processes. The newly proposed design process of WWTP for the local hospital in TImika has already prepared to be applied. Keywords : Medical Wastewater Treatment Process, anerobic/aerobic biofilter

Abstract

Clean water supply is still a very difficult problem for small villages, especially in County Ende, NTT. Three villages, ie Detukeli, Ndetundora I and Ndetundora II, are the examples. The real problem is the settlement living in the area which do not have enough potential of water resources. There are some potential surface water resources, but they are located more than 3 km from the village settlement. One of the potential rivers is so separated by a big hill, that the people have to walk for a long distance to reach the clean water resource. To solve the problem, it is very important to develop a transmition piping, including the distribution net and a hidram water pumping system. To construct a complete water supply system needs a lot of investation. For only Village Detukeli as an example, it needs approximately almost 2 thousand million rupiahs.  Kata Kunci : Clean water supply, limited potential of water resources

Abstract

Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) of County Ogan Komering Ilir has two problematic water treatment units. The first is located in Danau Teloko and the other is in the Teluk Gelam. The main problem is that many organic pollutants (namely peat water) contained in raw water. Therefore, PDAM can not be optimal to supply all the needs of drinking water for the community. PDAM have tried to treat the raw water of peat with the process of flocculation and coagulation, but the results did not meet quality standards as drinking water. This research is a trial test to obtain the optimum condition for flocculation and coagulation processes in water treatment. The results were very succesful and get the optimum pH is about 7.5 and a chemical dose of 80 ppm Aluminum Sulphate as the coagulant. Turbidity of water produced is 4 NTU and visually looks very clean. Better to add a synthetic polymer (PAC) as an additive to the process of flocculation and coagulation. Based on calculations, PDAM Danau Teloko will require the amount of coagulant (Aluminum Sulphate) 138.24 kg per day to produce 40 liters of drinking water per second. Keywords : Raw Water, Flocculation, Coagulation,  Water Treatment Plant

Abstract

In Indonesia during the rainy season floods often occur in urban areas, especially in a very densely populated areas. Central or local government has always suffered huge losses due to widespread flooding and paralyze all activities of the city. So many environmental issues that can cause flooding and the problem has become very complex. By doing assessment study deeply it can be seen that there are 7 (seven) causes flooding, namely: there is not environmentally sustainable development; The lack of a clean lifestyle in the general public; The lack of planning and maintenance of good drainage; The lack of consistency from the authorities in Spatial Planning and Regional; The absence of good conservation programs in balancing environmental of water; Iand subsidence; and very high rainfall intensity. Therefore it is necessary for serious efforts to address the flooding problem through: The consistency in environmentally sustainable development; Clean lifestyle in the community; The application of the concept " Water front City "; The application of the concept " One River One Management "; Making Infiltration; Prevention of Land Subsidence by Groundwater Injection manner; and Improved coordination of all stakeholders. Keywords: Causes flooding, options in handling flood problem.
