Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss that Christian teachers have an important role in passing on theological concepts to students. This study uses a descriptive method. The result is that Christian teachers become theologians because they carry out their function as teachers in the field of practical theology for students (cf. Eph 4:11-14; Jas 3:1). They are called theologians because the source of their teaching comes from the Scriptures and contributes to the development of a theological framework based on the leading of the Holy Spirit (cf. Jn 14-16). Practically, Christian teachers formulate beliefs or theological arguments that can be used as a reference to build the spiritual life of students so that they know God and love Him through Jesus Christ.

Abstract

This article addresses the problem of corruption in Christian ethics based on the reference of God's word. Christians involved in corruption show that carrying out governmental duties is outside the control of God's word. To examine this topic more deeply, the author uses descriptive methods and literature studies. The results and conclusions of this study show that the corruptors prioritize the works of the flesh, worship material things, give in to worldly temptations, violate Christian morality, and do not glorify God in their lives. Those corrupt Christian bureaucrats who are dominated by greed and greed are not the characters expected by God, and by doing so, they lose the opportunity to be witnesses of Christ in the world. Corruption is bad behavior, so there is an opportunity for the church to pay attention to anti-corruption education for the congregation so that those who sit in government can carry out their duties and responsibilities by the demands of the Christian faith.

Abstract

This historiographical article aims to describe Coolen as a pioneer of the indigenous church among the abangans in Ngoro, East Java in the 19th century, where he pioneered the ministry of indigenizing the gospel as an exciting new breakthrough. The discussion was conducted in stages of collecting historical data about Coolen, evaluating the obtained data, interpreting relevant data, and presenting the findings. The results show that Coolen was the initiator of the establishment of the ‘ngelmu’ Christian congregation among the abangans in Ngoro Village in the interior of East Java. He explained the secrets of ngelmu Kristen (lit., learning the Christianity) and appreciated Javanese culture as a new breakthrough in the ministry of preaching the gospel, compared to the Indische Kerk missionaries. However, some of his followers were more interested in joining Emde’s ministry pattern, so the outputs of his ministry were finally adopted into the Indische Kerk churches. Since then, the harvest of the abangans had stopped.

Abstract

The problem of this article is discussing the importance of Philip Yancey's Christological views applied in efforts to educate Christians in their faith which is centred on Christ. The purpose of this article is to explain Yancey's thoughts about the figure of Jesus who changes the lives of believers to become like Him. The method used is literature study. The results show that Yancey's thoughts about the characteristics of Jesus were not to stimulate objective academic-dogmatic thinking, but rather to present personal reflections as a journalist in order to reveal the identity of the Nazarene Youth through the literature he wrote. The Jesus he knew was a figure who changed him and would also change every person who met personally with the Son of God. Yancey tries to develop a new synthesis regarding the character and profile of Jesus and encourages readers to welcome Jesus as the authority over human life. Yancey's ideas about the figure of Jesus can be used as material for Christian faith education for the maturation of believers' faith. In conclusion, people who know and believe in Jesus personally are guaranteed to experience renewal of life and become like Him.
