Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a condition characterized by elevated serum uric acid levels, which serves as a primary risk factor for gout and is closely associated with cardiometabolic and renal disorders. Lifestyle factors, such as high-purine diets, obesity, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and a lack of routine health screenings, contribute significantly to the high incidence of hyperuricemia. This activity aimed to enhance the knowledge of the congregants at the Ihsan Darussalam Mosque, Aia Pacah, Padang City, regarding hyperuricemia prevention through community-based health counseling. The method employed was health counseling consisting of lectures and interactive discussions utilizing leaflets, complemented by personalized education for the participants. The results demonstrated an improvement in the participants' understanding of the definition of hyperuricemia, its risk factors, high-purine foods, as well as the importance of a healthy diet, physical activity, and routine health screenings. Community-based health counseling within a mosque environment has the potential to foster behavioral changes among congregants toward adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent hyperuricemia and its complications.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the incidence of DES among patients who underwent phacoemulsification cataract surgery at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang in 2025. This study aimed to determine the incidence of DES among patients who underwent phacoemulsification cataract surgery at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang in 2025. This study used a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources.  Bottom of FormThe study population included adult patients diagnosed with DES after phacoemulsification cataract surgery. Participants were selected using sequential sampling based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a total sample of 58 patients. The highest incidence of DES was observed among patients aged 60–74 years (60.3%), females (60.3%), and those primarily engaged in indoor activities (62.1%). Unilateral DES was the most common presentation, affecting 60.3% of patients. Based on postoperative duration, DES occurred most frequently within 1–3 months after surgery, accounting for 70.7% of cases. Regarding severity, moderate DES was the predominant category, affecting 48.3% of patients. Nearly all patients (98.3%) received artificial tears as treatment. ES following phacoemulsification cataract surgery at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang in 2025 was most frequently found in elderly patients aged 60–74 years, females, individuals with indoor activities, and those experiencing unilateral DES within 1–3 months after surgery. Moderate DES was the most common severity level, and almost all patients were treated with artificial tears therapy.

Abstract

Dyslipidemia and obesity are major metabolic disorders characterized by abnormal lipid metabolism, chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress, all of which contribute to progressive renal injury. Excessive accumulation of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) promotes macrophage infiltration and foam cell formation within renal tissue, accelerating glomerular damage and increasing the risk of chronic kidney disease. Aloin, the principal anthraquinone glycoside isolated from Aloe vera, possesses potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may attenuate oxidative injury and inhibit foam cell formation. This study aimed to investigate the effect of oral aloin administration on renal foam cell formation in male Mus musculus with dyslipidemia-induced obesity. A true experimental study employing a posttest-only control group design was conducted using male mice with experimentally induced dyslipidemia and obesity. Animals were randomly allocated into control and treatment groups. The treatment group received oral aloin for 28 consecutive days following dyslipidemia induction. Kidney tissues were collected for histopathological examination using Hematoxylin–Eosin staining. Foam cell formation was evaluated microscopically, and differences between groups were analyzed using the Independent Samples t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Histopathological analysis demonstrated that aloin administration reduced renal foam cell formation compared with the untreated control group. The treatment group exhibited approximately 25% foam cell formation, whereas the control group demonstrated approximately 93.8%. These findings suggest that aloin suppresses lipid accumulation and inflammatory responses within renal tissue through its antioxidant activity. Nevertheless, the therapeutic effect remained lower than that reported for atorvastatin, indicating that aloin is more appropriately considered a complementary rather than a replacement therapy. Oral administration of aloin effectively reduced foam cell formation in the kidneys of dyslipidemia-induced obese male mice. The protective effect is likely mediated through antioxidant activity, inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and attenuation of inflammatory processes.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a public health problem in Indonesia, particularly during the rainy season when the population of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes increases. This report describes a household-based health promotion intervention conducted by students of the Faculty of Medicine, Baiturrahmah University. Community-based educational methods and pre- and post-test evaluations were used to improve public understanding of DHF prevention. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge scores, from an average of 70.6% to 83.7%. Alternative household-based educational strategies proved effective in increasing community awareness and engagement in mosquito breeding site eradication efforts. This activity also emphasized sustainability through cross-sector collaboration and a community-based approach.
