Abstract

This article is to explain the implementation of KTSP curriculum which is invented in 2006 and is still implemented in some schools in Indonesia. Here, the writer includes several aspects, which are the current status of the curriculum, the relationship of curriculum with the mainstream environment, the organizing principle of the curriculum, theoretical approach of the curriculum, the theory of language learning, the curriculum and its context, curriculum and syllabus assessment. The method applied here is a library analysis toward KTSP curriculum. The result shows that the curriculum suits Indonesian students in almost sides since it requires teachers to develop the curriculum based on the context of schools and students’ capacity. Besides, the students will not face huge burden learning in a school since the teachers who formally recognize their students well develop all the teaching and learning syllabi. In conclusion, KTSP is a practically appropriate curriculum which has been implemented compared to previous curriculums. Indonesian government design it since this is a better innovative curriculum to apply to the educational institutions in Indonesia. The demand of the curriculum appears neither low nor high and is definitely achieved by the students.

Abstract

This article is about an analysis of teaching and learning process in an English classroom. it also gives an explanation of the presence of Input-Interaction-Output (IIO). In the article, there are details of the type of input and role applied by the teacher, the type and role of interaction built, and the type of output and its lead. Besides, other elements such as English talk and lesson explanation, the feedback given by the teacher, language view, materials, and activity in the classroom, etc will include in the essay. The method applied in the article is document analysis. The result is that the way the teacher teaches, the method she applies, and the approach she implements can offer and encourage them to obtain the knowledge in a good way. These factors seem agreeable as the students can perceive her teaching style well. However, the material or the subject provided by the teacher seems much lower for the students’ capacity. Thus, the writer suggests that Monique offer a little bit higher input.

Abstract

Encountering countless of inevitable problems defines the importance of problem-solving skill in students’ life. Hence, education has an obligation to help students possess all the required life-skills including but not limited to problem-solving skill. This study aims to establish a clear conclusion on how is the teacher's strategy in cultivating students’ problem-solving skill through competitive debate techniques using Asian parliamentary debate system (APDS) in the classroom setting. A qualitative approach was conducted with descriptive qualitative design. Using an online interview as the instrument with a semi-structured format, the researcher collected the data through interviewing an English teacher in Methodist senior high school Banda Aceh, Indonesia. the data collection was conducted in three phases, (1) Pre-data collection; (2) while data collection and; (3) post data collection. Where the collected data were compiled and analyzed in three stages, (1) data condensation; (2) data display, and; (3) data verification. The result showed that the teacher’s strategy was organized in three sequential order starting from pre-activity that consists of strategy in teacher preparation, while activity that pertains to the international procedures modification strategy, and post-activity regarding the teacher’s strategy in doing self-reflection toward the implementation of Asian parliamentary debate system. other relevant tips were also presented.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an alternative of vocabulary teaching through the use of English-language film clips and videos with subtitles with relevant activities which was conducted towards students of Class XI of SMAIT Al Fityan School. This research was conducted online using one pretest and posttest group through a mixed method approach; qualitative and quantitative research (quasi experiment). The data in quantitative form come from online tests. The data in qualitative form, to clarify the test results, come from the questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Based on the nonparametric statistical tests taken by 30 students of Class XI IPA and XI IPS using the Wilcoxon Test with the value of Sig. or the P value 0.000 in which 0.000> α 0.05. This result shows a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. These results indicate that the use of clip film and video media with subtitles may support students’ understanding & improvement of vocabulary learning besides may obtain new learning experiences for the senior high school students.
