Abstract

This study is intended to find out the effect of using storytelling to increase students’ ability in mastering grammatical structure focused on past tense subject and to investigate if there any significance differences in students’ score between students taught by using storytelling technique and traditional method. Research method used in this study was experimental study in which the participants were students of STKIP BinaBangsaGetsempena Banda Aceh. They were EFL students who studied at Pendidikan Guru SekolahDasar (PGSD) department. The students were 50 students divided into two groups (experimental class and control class). The instrument used was tests (pre-test and post-test) which were given before and after treatment. Experimental group was taught by using storytelling technique otherwise control group was taught by using traditional method. The result of the study shows that tobtain>ttable that is 5.139 > 2.00, so H0 is rejected. In other words, the students who were taught using storytelling technique achieved a better ability in mastering grammatical structure than the students who were taught grammar by using traditional method.It indicates that there is a significant differences in the experimental group compared to the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that storytelling technique is effective in increasing students’ ability in mastering grammar.

Abstract

Motivation is a key concept to be success in learning. Student who has high motivation would do the best in learning even though the materials were felt difficult. On the contrary, student who has low motivation would get bored and be indifferent in learning even though the materials given were so easy. In line with this, this study tried to investigate students’ motivation in learning English, whether they had intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. The study was conducted at English Department of Islamic State University (UIN) Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. The sample of this study was 142 English students from first, third, fifth and seventh semesters. This study was a survey method and the technique sampling used in this study was random sampling. Furthermore, the instrument used to collect the data is questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 10 questions in which question 1-5 are questions for intrinsic motivation and question 6-7 are questions for extrinsic motivation. The result of this study shows that the total mean score of intrinsic motivation is higher than the total mean score of extrinsic motivation 4.08 ˃ 3.21. It means that English students at UIN Ar-Raniry had higher intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation in learning English. In other words, the motivation to learn English that comes from inside students was bigger than the motivation comes from outside students.

Abstract

Early childhood is a child in the age of 0-6 years. In this age, the development and growth of physical and mental of children develop rapidly. Meanwhile, the aspects developed in early childhood education are: religious and moral values, physical (consisting of gross motor, fine motor and physical health), cognitive (consisting of general knowledge and science, concepts, shapes, colors, sizes and patterns, number concepts, symbols of numbers and letters), language (consisting of accepting language, expressing language and script) and emotional social. Language skills are one of the aspects which are developed at this age. Therefore, researchers intend to examine the level of mastery of the language of children through the song. This study aims to improve the vocabulary of early childhood, where this result affects the children’s ability to speak a foreign language in the future. This study is a Classroom Action Research, which aims to improve the ability of children English by using songs on the student group B TK Takrimah Tungkob Aceh Besar. This classroom action research is conducted in three cycles; each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Moreover, in analyzing the data, the researcher used descriptive method, that is analyzed data implemented since learning and developed during the process of reflection until process of report preparation. Data collection techniques used in this study include: interview, and observation of teaching and learning activities. Data analysis techniques consisted of three activities, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that 64% of students can mentioned correctly alphabet in English in the first cycle. Furthermore, 80% of students have known and can properly name a few nouns in English in the second cycle. Furthermore, in the third cycle, 88% of students have been able to use the noun in the form of a simple sentence. Based on the results of this study, it is very important for Kindergarten teachers to create an atmosphere of learning that makes students motivated and eager in learning such as the use of video media in learning so that automatically can improve students' abilities and achievement.

Abstract

Teaching English in educational system nowadays is more focused to increase students’ language skills through transferring knowledge and giving test activities only but less focused on increasing learners’ thinking ability. Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) are one of thinking skills that must be increased in teaching English besides language skills. Furthermore, authentic materials is a good media that can be used in teaching English since they offers the real language and genunine materials to increase learner’s motivation. By using authentic mterials, students can feel the real exposure of the target language they learnt. So that, English learning are more meaningful. This research is experimental study in form of pre-test post-test control group design aimed to investigate the influences of video authentic materials to increase learner’s higher order thinking skills. The participants of this study were English students of STKIP Bina Bangsa Getsempena Banda Aceh. To collect the data, instrument used are tests and questionnaires. Based on data analysis, the result of the study indicated that the scores of students learnt by using video authentic materials increased significantly. It is based on the result of t-test showed that the t- score was 2.641 and the significance score was 0.011. This significance value is smaller than 0.05, so it can be stated that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected, which means that there is a significant difference in the results of the experimental group post-test and the control group posttest. It can be concluded that teaching Englsih by using authentic video as media can improve English language skills and critical thinking skills of students of STKIP BinaBangsaGetsempena Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menggambarkan pengaruh penerapan program diniyah terhadap peningkatan nilai-nilai islami yang dianut siswa Sekolah Dasar Negeri 8 Banda Aceh yang meliputi nilai aqidah, ibadah dan akhlak. Penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif kualitatif yang mana pendekatan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan suatu proses kegiatan pendidikan berdasarkan atas apa yang terjadi di lapangan. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data berupa wawancara, oservasi, dan dokumentasi.Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan observasi, peneliti menemukan bahwa penerapan program diniyah berpengaruh positif terhadap perkembangan nilai-nilai islami siswa dan juga sangat berpengaruh terhadap pembentukan karakter siswa.Siswa menjadi lebih paham ilmu agama baik dari segi aqidah, ibadah dan akhlak.Siswa mulai mengaplikasikan ilmu yang telah didapatkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.Disamping itu, nilai-nilai islami yang berkembang dan tertanam dalam jiwa siswa dapat menjadi bekal bagi mereka dalam menjalani hidup sesuai dengan tuntunan Al-Quran dan hadist.
