Abstract

Background : Pain is an unpleasant emotional and sensory experience which is caused by the actual damage of body tissue. The pain experience by mother after Caesarean Section highly affects the ability of mother to take care and breast-feed the baby. It leads to dysfunctional family process. Many complementary therapies can be used to decrease patients’ pain scale. One of the therapies is warm compress technique, but unfortunately the effectiveness of this technique has not been identified in Sleman District General Hospital. Objective : The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the warm compress technique on patients’ pain scale following Caesarean Section surgery. Method : A quasy-experiment with pre-test and post-test with control group design was utilized in this study. 15 participants who met inclusion criteria were recruited for each group. The Numerical Rating Scale is used to measure the pain scale, where the pain is measured before and after the intervention within 3 days. Data analysis used was Independent Sample t-test with p < 0.05. Result : The result of Independent Sample t-test between intervention group and controlled group is (t=-3.445, p = 0.002). The average of pain scale in the intervention group is 5.80 as compared to control group as much as 6.87 (scale of 1-10). Conclusion : Warm compress technique significantly can decrease patients’ pain scale following Caesarean Section surgery. Therefore, the practical use of this technique for such population is necessary to be implemented as one of complementary therapies in clinical setting. Acupressure is a science of healing by tapping, massaging, and massage the body with the intention of reactivating the energy balance in mother's body because the body adapt to the changes that occur during pregnancy. With acupressure, especially at point pericardium 6 the balance in the body of mother can be overcome. Objective: To know the effectiveness of acupressure relaxation therapy to reducing complaints of nausea and vomiting in the first trimester pregnancy. Method: This was a quasi experimental study with Case Control design. Sample size was 22 respondents from Rachmi Maternity Hospital Yogyakarta with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used univariable analysis and bivariable with Mann W hitney U test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: There was a significant difference in the frequency of nausea and vomiting between treatment and control groups. The decreased of frequency of nausea and vomiting in the treated group was higher than the control group (p =0.026). Conclusion: Acupressure therapy i s effective in reducing t h e complaints of nausea and vomiting in first trimester pregnancy at Rachmi Maternity Hospital Yogyakarta. Provide acupressure therapy to pregnant women who complained of nausea and vomiting in trimester I. Create a regular schedule acupressure therapy. Measure the levels of HCG, the hormone endorphin, intestinal peristalsis, the intensity and duration of nausea and vomiting. Keywords : Acupressure, nausea vomiting, pregnancy

Post-operative care importance of breast cancer to prevent complications such as infection. The lack of information about post-operative care breast cancer to motivate women to add knowledge about breast area. This information can be obtained through various media both printed and electronics. A person who would have been exposed to more information will be different than not exposed to information. With the lack of information will give an influence on the knowledge one. Objectives: To knew the influence health education in level of knowledge about post-operative care client breast cancer in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Methods: Design this research is quasi experimental design with One Group Pre test - Post test. Number of sample that is 21 respondents from hospital Panembahan Senopati in Bantul and hospital Wates. Data Analysis is analysis of univariate and analysis of test bivariate using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with high significance p<0.05. Results: Client level of knowledge after being given health education most good as many as 14 respondents (66,7%) higher than that before given health education that is most less than 17 respondents (81%). %). Test result Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the z value of -4.028 and the p value of 0.000. This shows that the ρ < 0.05 which means health education level of knowledge clients have an influence on post-operative breast cancer. Conclusion: There is influence health education level of knowledge clients in post-operative breast cancer before and after being given health education in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Abstract

Background: Surgery is one of medical interventions which can cause fear, anxiety, and stressed because of its effects toward the integrity of body and soul. Nurses have significant roles in any preoperative care which is helping patients to decrease preoperative anxiety by using complementary therapy. The use of music therapy as one of the complementary therapies is not common in Indonesia. Therefore, scientific studies to prove the role of this therapy to decrease the level of anxiety of pre-operative patients is needed. Objective: To investigate the effects of music therapy in reducing anxiety levels of preoperative patients. Methods: A quasy experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group was applied to 50 respondents from medical ward in Panembahan Senopati Hospital of Yogyakarta who met the inclusion criteria.Dara were then analyzed by using t-test statistical analysis. Results: The control group showed the increased value of anxiety level of0.8 without music intervention (t= -1503, df = 24, p<.05), whereas the intervention group showed the decreased value of anxiety level of -5.52 (t=5.081, df=24, p<.05). Meanwhile the independent t-test results for both groups showed a significant difference between group (t= 3,373, df=48, p<.05). Abstract

The most complaint symptom for post herniotomy patients is pain on the surgical site. Pain may affect patients' ability to mobilize and may attribute to prolonged length of stay in the hospital. Many complementary therapies have been used to decrease pain intensity for patients post-surgery, but warm compress intervention on post herniotomy pain has not been explored significantly. To investigate the effect of warm compress intervention on post herniotomy pain. The study used a pre-post test quasi-experimental with control group design. Sixteen post herniotomy adult patients of Wates Kulon Progo District General Hospital of Yogyakarta were recruited for each group. The intervention group was given warm compress interventions two times per day for two days. Pain intensity was assessed pre and post-intervention with the Numerical Rating Scale, while the control group only received regular analgetic. The researchers used the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test to compare pain intensity in each group and between groups.Fifteen out of 16 patients who received warm compress intervention rated decreased pain intensity as the rest did not experience any differences after the intervention (Z=-3.354, p=.001). Unlike the control group, only 3 out of 16 patients experienced declined pain intensity after two days of herniotomy when the rest did not encounter any changes (Z=-1.732, p=.083). The mean rank between intervention and control groups were significantly different (U=20.000, p=.000). Warm compress intervention is a non-invasive nursing intervention which is effective in reducing the pain intensity of post herniotomy patients.

Abstract

Cancer diagnosis has detrimental effects on patients’ families since they have to take care of the patients, resulting in caregivers' burden. This study aimed to investigate the burden of family caregivers caring for cancer patients. A descriptive quantitative study was applied to 60 family caregivers of cancer patients in a government hospital in Yogyakarta. Data were gathered using sociodemographic and health-related instruments and Zarit Burden Interview, then analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results showed all family caregivers expressed their feelings of the intensity of burden (60% little or no burden, 36.7% mild-to-moderate, 3.3% moderate-to-severe), and none of them expressed severe burden. The majority were patients' children, married males, over 40 years old, and small family members living in the same house in a rural area. They went to high school or university, working in private sector, with monthly family income were below a minimum standard. They spent 1-6 hours per day for caregiving without experience in caring. They also did not have any chronic diseases, whom the majority of patients they were taking care of had third stadium of breast cancer without metastasis with chemotherapy. To conclude, most caregivers experienced little or no burden in caring for their family members with cancer.
