Abstract

Two feeders of 20 kV overhead distribution lines which are located in a high lightning density area are chosen to be observed as a field study due to their  good  lightning  performance  after  improvement  of  lightning  protection system.  These  two  feeders  used  the  new  overhead  ground  wire  and  new  line arrester  equipped  with  lightning  counter  on  the  main  lines.  The  significant reduced  of  lines  outages  are  reported.  Study  was  carried  out  to  observe  these improvements  by  comparing  to  the  other  two  feeders  line  which  are  not improved and not equipped yet with the ground wire and line arrester. These two feeders  located  in  the  nearby  area.  Two  cameras  were  installed  to  record  the trajectory of the lightning strikes  on the improved lines. Lightning peak currents are  measured  using  magnetic  tape  measurement  system  installed  on  the grounding  lead  of  lightning  arrester.  Lightning  overvoltage  calculations  are carried out by using several scenarios based on observation results and historical lightning data derived from lightning detection network. Lightning overvoltages caused by indirect or direct strikes are analyzed to get the lightning performance of  the  lines.  The  best  scenario  was  chosen  and  performance  of  the  lines  were improved significantly by installing overhead ground wire and improvement of lightning arrester installation.

Abstract

Extra High Voltage (EHV) 500 kV transmission lines has higher insulation strength against overvoltages produced by lightning strikes compare to lower transmission lines voltage such as 150 kV or 70 kV transmission lines. Observation was carried out at EHV 500 kV Paiton-Kediri line located at east Java island of Indonesia. This line has operated for more than five-years. In fact is there were many insulators were broken by lightning strikes, especially during rainy season. A large number of broken insulator at many towers deterioted performance of the lines, in which many line outages occured. This study presents the evaluation results of performance of the lines concerning its robustness agains lighting strikes. Investigation of the characteristics of lightning strikes in the area along the lines was carried out. From this observation and study it founds that some towers need to be improved to have better performance against overvoltage due to direct lightning strikes to the towers. By using Severity index methodology, local lightning data and innovation technology for lightning protection system significant results were derived.

Abstract

Induction and Conduction Electromagnetic Waves Caused by Lightning Strike on the Low Voltage Network. Direct and indirect lightning strikes can disturb and induce low voltage overheadlines and it can produced overvoltage due to traveling waves along the lines. This overvoltage can damage the equipments connected to it. It was recorded that there were already a lot of damages of electronic equipments and arrestesr located inside the building of Lightning Measurement Station at Mnt. Tangkuban Perahu. Most of the overvoltage which was developed on the low voltage lines were coming from indirect lightning strike nearby due to the fact that most of the lines were covered by trees. Research was carried out to study and evaluate the induction and conduction of the lightning strikes to the LV lines that can lead to the cause of equipment and arrester damages inside the building. Local lightning data for the analysis were derived from measurement system installed at the stations and historical lightning data from lightning detection network called Jadpen (National Lightning Detection Network). The data was used for calculating and evaluating the voltage elevation, induction voltage profiles and conduction in the form of traveling waves using Rusck Model. Two damaged arresters were evaluated and compared and it give the better understanding on how the protection system work.

Abstract

The biogas in the research that the authors do is a mixture of cow dung with 1: 2 water, where the biogas in this study is carried out by anaerobic fermentation or without air, a mixture of cow dung and water is put into the reactor and the fermentation process is carried out for 12 days to prove whether biogas In this study, gas will be stored in storage (biogas bag 1 and biogas bag 2. The research method used, namely conducting literature studies, exploration, determining equipment specifications, designing and implementing and testing. In designing this tool, it is able to produce gas from the biogas fermentation process, namely methane gas which can be detected by a functioning methane gas sensor. Where there is an increase in PPM testing between the first MQ-4 sensor from 5246.36 and the second MQ-4 sensor detected at 5667.23 PPM with the adjusted difference of 420.87 PPM, so the methane gas is tested with a stove and a lighter. The MQ-4 sensor measurement error results reached 5.63%. Keywords: Reaktor fixed dome, MQ-4, Gas Metana, Monitoring

Abstract

Biogas is gas produced by bacteria when organic matter undergoes a fermentation process under anaerobic conditions, and will produce methane gas which is temporarily stored in a container called a biogas bag. The biogas bag needs to be controlled to ensure the biogas bag remains safe. The control system is in the form of a two-position control because it has the advantage of being cheap and simple, besides that the solenoid valve as an actuator has a non-linear output property. To detect the capacity of the biogas bag, the HCSR-04 proximity sensor is used as feedback on the set point value that is set, which is 50 cm for the maximum set point and 30 cm for the minimum set point. The results obtained by the proximity sensor is able to read the distance with an accuracy of 5.8% and the On-Off control has a response of 0.25 seconds.
