Abstract

The research was carried out in July 2004 at Makaham Delta, East Kalimantan. Thisresearch observed the diversity and the distribution pattern of mangrove crabs atmuara Ilu, Kaely, Bayor, and Beji. There are 33 species consisting of 7 families and 6908individu of crabs found in this research. Most of the mangroves crabs are clumpdistributed. The research method by using frame transects 1 m2 x 1 m2 with 5 up to 10meters distance (based on the thickness of mangrove in those areas). The distributionpattern of crabs analyze by using Index Morisita according to Brower and Zar.

Abstract

A study on the distribution and zonation of mangrove crustacean in Mahakam Delta, East Kalimantan was conducted in July 2004. The three research locations were selected i.e. Muara Ilu, Muara Kaeli, Muara Bayor and Muara Beji. Crustaceans were collected by applying quandran methods (1 x 1 m) in transect lines. The diversity index (H’) of crustacean in Delta Mahakam: 1.382 - 2.028 and the Eveness  index (E) : 0.5877 - 0.7101. The highest diversity index was recorded from muara Kaeli and the highest Evenes index  was in Muara Ilu.

Abstract

GET CLOSER TO KNOW THE SEA MOLE CRAB (CRUSTACEA: DECAPODA: HIPPIDAE) AND THE BENEFITS FOR LIFE. The mole crab or also known as yutuk is an animal belonging to the group of crustaceans. The crab has a small body size and live immersed in the open beach sand in the tropics and sub-tropics. In Indonesia, many are found along the beaches around Yogjakarta, Central Java. One of the most common of species is Emerita emertus, Hippa adactyla and Hippa ovalis. It is highly hunted by the locals as the crab has high economic value, especially for source of nutrious food. Ecologically the crab is an important component in the food chain, in which the crab acts as an initial consumer in trophic level. Continuous and large-scale harvesting can disrupt the stability of the population in nature, therefore knowledgebased management is required to sustain the balanced population

Abstract

THE ASPECTS OF BIOLOGY ANDEYE ABLATION ON SHRIMP Penaeus monodon PENAEIDAE (DECAPODA: MALACOSTRACA). A qood quality of seeds (fry) is a very important production component to support the shrimp farming activities in ponds. The quantity and quality of shrimp seeds are largely determined by hatchery products obtained from the quality of the broodstock used. The provision of the broodstock is the beginning of the seed production activities and is one of the factors that determines the quality and quantity of the production. The growing demand for mature gonad shrimp is a big problem for shrimp farmers, due to the ability of windu shrimp to spawn in the nature (ripe gonad naturally) takes relatively long time. Therefore, the eye ablation process can accelerate the process of gonad maturity. This article describes some aspects that should be understood in conducting windu shrimp farming as well as explanations of ablation process.

Abstract

STUDIES ON CRUSTACEANS SPECIES LIVING IN THE CORAL REEF AND THEIR ROLE IN ECOSYSTEM. Crustaceans are one of the most specis invertebrates in coral reefs, comprising approximately 20 % of all invertebrate species. This taxa often found clearly living in coral communities. The order Decapoda is the most common crustaceans observed the coral reefs due to their relatively large size and having bright colours. In addition, decapods contribute in the environmental balance and having important roles in coral reef ecosystem such as defending live coral from predators and helping growth of corals.
