Abstract

A study about character building was conducted to better understand the impact of character building for individual, family and community. This study used grounded research method. Individuals who have good or bad behaviors are affected by past experience in relation to the character building they received. A happy family or a broken-home family is also influenced by past experience of each member of the family. Moreover, the success or failure of a social organization in the society, in this case was a country, is also determined by the character building from the members of the organization. Finally, study concluded that character building is very important in achieving the happiness of individuals, family and society/country.

Abstract

This study focuses on the improvement of customer satisfaction through good governance of Character Building course in Bina Nusantara University (Binus). CBDC as the department which organizes Character Building (CB) in Binus makes continuous improvements in all aspects in organizing CB. The purpose of this research as a partnership with CBDC is to look for and find the needs, desires, and expectations (importance) of students as customers about classroom managemant of CB in Binus. The research method used is Community Survey. Comunity Survey was conducted in 02PDO class at second semester of 2012/2013 academic year. Results of the research from 25 surveyed items show there are 13 items that students expected to get in the course but they did not get. There are 9 items that they expected to get in the course and they got. Moreover, there are 3 items that they did not expect to get in the course, but they got. Research concludes, in implementation of Character Building course in 02PDO class at second semester of 2012/2013 academic year, that there were 13-student expectation not fulfilled; 9-student expectation fulfilled; and 3 items not expected yet given in the lecture.

Abstract

Baduy  is a tribe that applies isolation from the outside world. They are not familiar with school, because school as formal education is opposed to their lifestyle. This study aims to explain the background and development of Baduy people whom are neglected, marginalized, and overlooked despite they live in Java island. The research method used is descriptive, case study type. The case is about why the Baduy tribe is neglected, marginalized, and overlooked. The Baduy tribe lives in Kanekes village, 39 km from Rangkasbitung city, 120 km from Jakarta. Data collecting uses interview and observation from January 2012 to June 2013. Data analysis uses qualitative data analysis technique. The results show five phenomena in the origin and development of the people which lead them to be neglected, marginalized, and overlooked. This study leads to conclusion that Baduy people need humanitarian assistance; and Paulo Freire’s conscience is one of the alternatives in providing humanitarian assistance to them.
