Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa efektivitas penggunaan metode Total Physical Response (TPR) dalam meningkatkan penguasaan vocabulary Bahasa Inggris pada siswa Sekolah Dasar. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah metode mixed method, yang mengkombinasikan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian, penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi-experimental, dengan melibatkan dua kelompok partisipan (kontrol and eksperimen) siswa kelas satu di sebuah Sekolah Dasar Islam di Bandung serta memberikan pretest, treatment and posttest. Selain itu, observasi dengan melakukan catatan lapangan ditempuh untuk mengetahui respon para siswa terhadap metode TPR. Hasil analisis data menunjukan bahwa hasil skor pretest dan posttest kelompok kontrol tidak menunjukan perbedaan yang signifikan. Sebaliknya, hasil skor pretest dan posttest kelompok eksperimen menunjukan perbedaan yang signifikan. Karenanya dapat disimpulkan bahwa penguasaan vocabulary bahasa Inggris kelompok eksperimen meningkat secara signifikan. Selain itu, data dari hasil observasi dengan melakukan catatan lapangan menunjukan bahwa secara umum para siswa merespon dengan baik terhadap penggunaan metode TPR yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan selama proses pembelajaran, para siswa terlihat senang, antusias, berpartisipasi dengan baik tanpa ada perasaan tertekan atau stress. Terlebih lagi, mereka memahami baik materi pembelajaran maupun instruksi kelas. Karenanya dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode TPR efektif dan cocok digunakan untuk siswa Sekolah Dasar yang mempelajari bahasa Inggris, khususnya vocabulary. Abstract

Set in Victorian to Edwardian England, the novel features a character with a homosexual identity, prompting this research on the character's non-conformity to heteronormative standards. This article aims to analyze the form of ideological control that emerges as the heteronormative norm in the novel Maurice through the perspective of class-consciousness Marxist, using Eagleton’s Ideology theory. Ideological theory through Marxist concepts, reveals context-based analysis of how economic structures shape ideology and social change. This article uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a mimetic approach, which describes the data collected through narration and dialogue from the novel. The findings categorize heteronormative norms as ideological control into three types: those stemming from religious dogma, the hegemony of masculinity in public schools, and the discourse on sexuality. Maurice explained the causal relationship between class position in the social strata and dominant norms, impacting the characters' lives.

Abstract

This study examines conversational implicature in an interview titled “Why AI is Overrated – with Neil deGrasse Tyson.” The research focuses on how implicature is formed through the flouting of Grice’s Cooperative Principle maxims. The objective is to identify the types of maxim flouting and interpret the implied meanings in the interaction between Hasan Minhaj and Neil deGrasse Tyson. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through transcription and analyzed using Grice’s theory. A total of 47 utterances containing potential implicature were identified, but only the most relevant data were selected through purposive sampling. The findings show that all four types of maxim flouting occur in the conversation, namely quality, quantity, relation, and manner. The flouting of maxims serves various communicative purposes, such as creating humor, expressing, simplifying complex ideas, and maintaining audience engagement. These results indicate that conversational implicature plays an important role in shaping meaning and interaction in interview-based media discourse.
