Abstract

Diglossia is a situation in which a language having functional division of varieties of language or languages in a community. The language used by Sangihe people is defined through the features of diglosia, that is particular and general language varieties. The aim of this research is to identify the styles of Sasahara and Sasalili languages, recognize when Sasahara and Sasalili used, and analyze the function of Sasahara and Sasalili languages. The theory used is Fishman’s theory. He defines diglossia as the language situation relatively stable in addition to the main dialect of language that includes regional standard, where there are very different things. This research uses qualitative method with sociolinguistics approach.The result shows that Sasahara and Sasalili languages are not only used by fishermen at the sea and farmers in the fields, but also used in the village for celebration, wedding party and in the lyrics of folk songs. Sasahara and Sasalili languages function as disguise language which used by people of Sangihe to avoid disaster that can disrupt their daily activity.

Abstract

Language used by humans to interact with each other so that language evolved in with the wearer’s cultural development. Like a human being to plan and create a culture of continuous, language as part of the culture also continues to grow as the dynamics of human cultural development. The method which used in data collection that is observation with tapping technique and listening attentively, involving, talking technique and also listening attentively, free involving talking technique, interview method was carried out in two ways namely unfocused interview and focused interview. Interview method to informant was carried out by using the concept of Spradley ethnographic questions. To analyze data was used concept of expression analysis, linguistic anthropology analysis and the concept of Dell Hymes through acronym of speaking. The results showed that the verbal expressions in Tumatenden dance consist of four parts, namely 1) part of meeting, 2) part of living together, 3)part of separation, and 4) part of meeting again, the nonverbal expressions consist of gestures and attributes that are imposed.The meeting is related to the cultural contexts that exist in Tonsea society.

Abstract

Tulude is a traditional ceremony which is held by Sangihe people in North Sulawesi. It always celebrated at the end of January. The aim of Tulude celebration is to express gratitude to The Almight God for His protection in the past year.The problem of this study is to identify and classify the meaning of signs in Tulude the traditional ceremony of Sangihe people. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the meanings of signs or symbols found in Tulude the traditional ceremony through the objects used in Tulude such as clothing, colours, equipments ,dances and also verbal signs.
