Abstract

The research was conducted in February 2015 in the North Coast Bengkalis Island, Bantan District. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlations between the concentration of nitrate, phosphate and silicate as well as an abundance of diatoms, to provide information about fertility waters seen from the content of nitrate, phosphate and silicate as well as an abundance of diatoms in the water, so it can be used as a reference for the development of fisheries and the preservation of ecosystems in a sustainable manner, The research was used purposive sampling method with 3 stations and each station there are four sampling points. The results showed that the concentration of Nitrate, Phosphate and Silicate i.e 0.0747 mg/L; 0.0586 mg/L; 0.0542 mg/L . Diatom species were found 11 species i.e: Rhizosoleniaalata, Rhizosoleniadelicatula, Skeletonemacostatum, Lauderia borealis, NitzschiaSeriata, Isthmia SP, Biddulphiapulchella, Rhizosoleniaindica, Aulacoseria granulate, Lepctocylindrusanmeus and Ceralaulinadentata. An abundance of diatoms at Station 1 , Station 2 and Station 3 as much as 1916.67 Ind/L ; 1316.67 Ind/L ; 3241.67 Ind/L. The results of Regression test showed that nitrate concentrations correlations with diatom abundance of very strong correlation with the value of r (correlation coefficient) = 0.946. Relations with the abundance of diatoms phosphate concentrations are very strong correlations with the value of r (correlation coefficient) = 0.988. Relations with the silicate concentration of diatom abundance of strong correlationss with the value of r (correlation coefficient) = 0,550.Keywords: Nitrate, Phospate, Silicate, Abundance Diatoms,

Abstract

This study was conducted in January 2015 to determine the heavy metal concentration of lead (Pb) and copper (Cu) in seawater and sediment in the west coast of Karimun Besar Island of Riau Archipelago. Samples of sea water and sediment were analyzed for their metal concentrations in Marine Chemistry Laboratory Department of Marine Sciences University of Riau Pekanbaru by using AAS Perkin Elmer 3110. Metal concentrations in the sea water were highest in Station I (Pb 0.270 mg/L and Cu 0.140 mg/L), whilst concentrations in the sediment were found to be highest in stations III (Pb 8.055 μg/g, Cu 5.359 μg/g). Concentrations of Pb and Cu in the sediment in the study area was still below the Dutch quality standard for metals in sediments and the default value of the ERL and ERM. Based on I-geo calculations it was considered that the study area still has low impact on aquatic ecology.Key Words: heavy metal, seawater, sediment, Karimun, Lead, Copper

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted in March 2018 by taking samples of Meretrix meretrixfrom Pantai Cermin of Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra Province. The purpose of this research was to determine the metal concentrationsof Cr, Cu and Zn in the shells based on the size from different stations, to evaluate the differences in metal concentrations between umbo and periostacum,as well as to find out the level of metal pollution based on MPI (Metal Pollution Index). Analysis of metal concentrations of heavy metal was done byPerkin Elmer 3110 Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results showed that the highest Cr metal concentration in umbo was found at Station 3 (10,253 µg/g) in large sizes, the highest Cu was at Station 2 in large size (4,173 µg/g) and for Zn was found at station 2 (132,867 µg/g)in large size. Mean while the highest concentration of Cr in Periostacum was at Station 3 (7,320 µg/g)in large size, Cu was at Station 2 (3,747 µg/g) in small size, and for the highest Zn was at Station 2 (98,777 µg/g)in small size. The concentration of Cr, Cu and Zn was higher in the umbo than periostacum. Based on this study, the MPI value of Pantai Cermin was 10,36 which was quite comparable to other studies.  Keywords: Pollution, Heavy Metal,Meretrix meretrix, Pantai Cermin

Abstract

AbstractObservation on mangrove vegetation density and abundance of macroepifauna was carried out in intertidal area Rupat straits Riau Province in October 2014. The purpose of this study was to determine the structure and mangrove density and it΄s relation to abudance of macroepifauna, it showed that the mangrove vegetation density ranged (2011,11-3044,44 trees/ha) with the highest density was found at station 2 (3044,44 trees/ha) followed by station 1 (2011,11 trees/ha). The abudance of macroepifauna was highest at station 2 (11244,44 ind/ha) followed by station 1 (1088,88 ind/ha). Correlation coeficient of mangrove density and abudance of macroepifauna appeared to be 0,695 and determination coeficient of 0,484, it was calculated that regression equation was y = - 5071 + 4,445x.Keyword : Mangrove, Macroepifauna, Rupat Channel, Density

Abstract

This study was conducted in Januari 2014. Samples of blood cockle were taken from onthe waters of Tanjung Balai Asahan North Sumatera. The purpose of this study was to analyzethe metal content of Pb, Cu and Zn in soft tissues and shells of blood cockle with different bodysize, determine the different concentration of Pb, Cu and Zn in soft tissues and shell, determinerelationships of metal content in soft tissues and shells with the body size and to determine thesafety comsumption of blood cockle. Pb and Cu content in the shells were higher than softtisssues whilst Zn was higher in the soft tissues. The average metal content in soft tissues weredifferent by the size where Pb conteten was higher in the small size (1,79 μg/g ), Cu in smallsize (9,69 μg/g) and Zn also in small size (1.227, 81 μg/g). Mean while the average , Pb contentin shells was higher in the large size (8,26 μg/g) , Cu in medium size ( 19,24 μg/g), and Zn wasin the medium size too (1.017, 02 μg/g).Keyword: Heavy metal, A,granosa, Shell, Soft tissue, Tanjung Balai Asahan

Abstract

This research was conducted from January to March 2015 by taking samples of seawater and sediment from the west coast of Karimun Besar Island of Riau Islands Province and analyzed their heavy metals concentrations. Analysis of samples was carried out in Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Riau by using Atomic Absortion Spectrophotometer. The results showed that the highest concentrations of Cd (0.109 mg/L) and Zn (0.227 mg/L) in seawater were found in the area of the boat and harbour activities, whilst the highest concentration in the sediment samples were found for Cd in Pelawan Coast (3.664 μg/g) and Zn (6.552 μg/g) in the ferry port area. The highest organic matter in the sediment was found in the ferry port (3.82%) and the lowest was in the Pelawan Coast (0.65%). Zn concentrations in sediment were still below the range of the ERL but Cd concentration has already exeeded the ERL but still below the ERM value. Based on Potential Ecological Risk Index, Cd may cause possible negative impact on the aquatic ecology of the West Coast of Karimun Besar Island.Key Words: Heavy Metals, Water, Sediment, Karimun
