Abstract

This essay will explain about the form of the utilization of the cave karas thathas lasted in the past. The path of activity seen with the fi nding in the form of anartifact and ecofak that is concerned the environment and the presence of an imageon walls and ceilings caveman. In this research using a qualitative approach witha descriptive method. The technique of collecting data through study of literature,observation, and excavation. Next the data has got processed until the conclusionsand advice found. The fi ndings results excavation and observation in the karascave then noted and done a summation after classifi ed.Based on the results ofthis research, the analysis showed that the cave had been utilized as a Karas cavedwelling. These fi ndings indicate the utilization of cave dwelling on aspects as Karashorizontal as well as vertical side burial. In addition, the existence of human bonefragments and the fi ndings of the existence of the pictures on the cave’s wall showsa connection with the utilization of space in the karas cave. Thus the existence ofarchaeological fi ndings related to the cultural process in utilizing space in Karascave.ABSTRAKTulisan ini mengungkapkan tentang bentuk pemanfaatan gua Karas yangtelah berlangsung pada masa lalu. Jejak aktifi tas terlihat dengan adanya temuanberupa artefak dan ekofak yang berkaitan lingkungan maupun adanya gambarpada dinding dan langit-langit gua. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatankualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka,observasi, dan ekskavasi. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh diolah sampai padapenyusunan interpretasi hingga pada kesimpulan dan saran. Temuan hasil ekskavasidan observasi di gua Karas kemudian dicatat dan dilakukan penjumlahan setelahdiklasifi kasikan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dari penelitian ini, memperlihatkan bahwagua Karas pernah dimanfaatkan sebagai gua hunian. Temuan tersebut menunjukkanpemanfaatan gua Karas sebagai hunian pada aspek horizontal sekaligus sebagaipenguburan pada sisi vertikal. Selain itu, adanya temuan fragmen tulang manusiadan keberadaan gambar pada dinding gua menunjukkan adanya hubungan denganpemanfaatan ruang di gua Karas. Dengan demikian keberadaan temuan arkeologisberkaitan dengan proses budaya dalam memanfaatkan ruang di gua Karas.

Abstract

UPTD Museum Negeri Provinsi Papua are an important asset in understanding culture in Papua. The existence of the museum was directed as a meas of identity communities in Papua through collection. This research applies qualitative method with descriptive analysis. Data are being collected from related studies, close observations, and interviews. These data and facts are then processed to build proper suggestions. Including interpretation in collection because it has an important value for the history, science, education, religion, and culture. This research shows that the collection management of UPTD Museum Negeri Provinsi Papua is not yet at it maximum efforts to provide proper knowledge about Papua’s culture to public. The existence of collections is important to define the identity of the society it originated. The development of collection management is necessary to improve the museum’s role in introducing and promoting the cultural identity of Papua.AbstrakUPTD Museum Negeri Provinsi Papua merupakan aset penting dalam memahami kebudayaan di Papua. Keberadaan museum ini diarahkan sebagai sarana identitas masyarakat di Papua melalui koleksi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka, observasi, dan wawancara. Selanjutnya data dan fakta yang diperoleh, diolah sampai pada penyusunan saran-saran. Termasuk interpretasi dalam koleksi karena memiliki nilai penting bagi sejarah, ilmu pengetahuan, pendidikan, agama, dan kebudayaan. Berdasarkan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengelolaan koleksi di UPTD Museum Negeri Provinsi Papua belum maksimal memberikan informasi pengetahuan dan pemahaman mengenai kebudayaan di Papua. Keberadaan koleksi dianggap memiliki nilai penting karena merupakan identitas atau jati diri dari pendukungnya menyangkut aspek kehidupan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, perlu pengembangan dalam pengelolaan koleksi sehingga mencerminkan apresiasi budaya sebagai identitas masyarakat dalam mengenal Papua.

Abstract

The presence of cultural resources in Papua UPTD State Museum is an important asset in understanding the culture in Papua. Directed as a means of community identity in Papua through a collection of cultural resources. In facts, the manager of the museum does not provide enough knowledge about relevant information contained in these cultural resources. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Based on the results of the study indicate that the management of cultural resources at the State Museum of Papua UPTD not optimally provide knowledge and information to comprehend the culture in Papua which needed by the public. Knowledge or values contained in less cultural resource providing information in accordance with the vision and mission statement by the museum. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the cultural resource management in order to reflect the appreciation of the culture as a people’s identity, in identifying Papua.

Abstract

Management in archaeology usually called as archaeological remains advantaging. One of the cultural heritage that could manage is Tutari Megalitical site. Hope, the government as the facilitator must be give understanding about how important this archaeological remains. The public should be involved in the planning of cultural heritage management for archaeological remains preservation.
