Abstract

The teacher is considered as the most crucial factor in implementing all educational reforms at the very basic level. In order to get the good result in education, it needs competent teachers. This study aims at finding out the way teachers implement their professional competence in the form of knowledge mastery, creativity and use of media in teaching English as a foreign language. This study used qualitative descriptive design. The instruments used were observation and interview. The data of this study was collected through doing observation and interview. The data of this study were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s model of analysis (Flow Model). The result of the study showed that the way teachers implemented their professional competence in the form of knowledge mastery, creativity and use of media were done well. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that the teachers implemented their professional competence well in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the students’ and teachers’ perceptions on implementing the computer-based test as the final assessment in SMA Negeri 1 Soe. This study used a qualitative descriptive design. The instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The data of this study was collected through spreading questionnaires and interviews. The data of this study were analyzed by using SPSS. The result of the study showed that students perceive there were some benefits of CBT implementation, such as; getting new experiences, training them to operate computers well and work harder, showing their grades directly, and teaching them to be honest. While the teachers perceive that it gave them a new challenge as the demand to be innovative to face the development of science and technology in this digital era, it was an effective way to measure the students’ learning achievement. It was a good way to promote the school level and accreditation, as an effort to improve the quality of teaching and learning, saving money because they did not need to spend it for buying papers, pens. But students and teachers also stated some weaknesses of CBT implementation such as; server error, electricity problems, time (session) delay, and computer errors.

Abstract

Teaching and learning is a good way to reach the educational goals. Since the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) hits the word, the process of teaching and learning totally change that creates new problem for teachers and students. This study aims to find out the students’ perceptions of the implementation of home learning and online learning during the pandemic era (COVID-19) in SMA Negeri 1 Soe. This study used a qualitative descriptive design. The instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The data of this study was collected through spreading questionnaires and doing interviews. The data of this study were analyzed by using SPSS. The result of the study showed that students perceive the implementation of home learning and online learning during pandemic era (COVID-19) is a good way because it could protect the students from the spread of the COVID-19, it helped the students to keep learning. It could make the students to be responsible for their learning improvement.

Abstract

Teaching and learning is a good way to reach the educational goals. This is a classroom action research. The objective of this study was finding out how reading literacy improve students’ comprehension. This study used mix method design. The instruments used were test. The data of this study were collected through spreading questionnaires and doing interviews. The result of the study showed reading literacy could improve students’ comprehension. The data analysis showed that there was a significant improvement of students’ comprehension in cycle I compared to cycle II. It was because reading literacy could facilitate students in identifying problems, brain storming, analyzing, formulating problems, and presenting well.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Soe through POSSE strategy. The type of the research was action research. The subjects of the research were 32 students of grade X Science 1 at SMA Negeri 1 Soe. There were two kinds of the data in this research were qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative data were obtained by doing observation, interviewing and field note. The quantitative data were obtained from the pre-test and post-test. They were presented in the form of scores and analyzed by using descriptive statistics in SPSS 17 program. The result showed that POSSE strategy allows students to have practices in predicting the text, organizing the prediction, searching the main idea, summarizing the text, and evaluating their understanding of the text. It also helped the students enrich their vocabulary by maximizing use of the predicting and the evaluating steps. Then, most students show their enthusiasm and active participation in the teaching and learning process of reading. Finally, there is an improvement on students’ reading comprehension. It could be concluded that POSSE strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension.
