Abstract

Tourism will be producing foreign exchange in Indonesia. Indonesia has a tourism appeal that manifests itself in traditional homes and village. In promoting Indonesian tourism to foreign countries, traditional architecture is a better choice, but fewer relics of traditional building art are worth a visit. Sumatera is an ethnically diverse island. Sumatera has become a tourist attraction that is often visited by foreign tourist. Resort attractions are becoming tourist attractions and lodging that is frequented by foreign tourist. There are several problems, namely how to realize the planning and design of resort cottages by considering traditional architecture and having planning standards that need to consider based on comparative studies carried out, then how to process the appearance of the building to fit the atmosphere in Taman Simalem Resort. With the aim of the design is to realize the concept of designing Resort Cottages and supporting facilities such as restaurants and spas by applying the principles of Traditional architecture. The design method used in the object design includes two aspects, namely the approach to the design theme, location, and environmental studies.

Abstract

Indonesian’s nature has a combination of a tropical climate and is the largest and most island nation in the world. Indonesia also has many natural tourism sites that are already well-known abroad. One of them is Lake Toba. Lake Toba is the largest and deepest lake in Southeast Asia. These tourist attractions are also supported by a cultural heritage that is rich with many tribes and customs that spread throughout Indonesia. Resort hotels are one of the supporting facilities in the tourist area. The design of the Tongging resort hotel raises the theme of neo vernacular. The problem posed was "How to design Resort Hotels using the neo-vernacular architectural approach?". Using the neo-vernacular school aims to arouse the culture and customs of the environment. Because we know the Tongging area is a Batak tribe area, which is a very thick tribe with traditions and customs. The resort hotel design Tongging is designed using ornamentation and formations, which are more directed to the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house by using qualitative methods because it is rational and planned precisely with the location of the site. Tongging resort hotel can be a resort hotel that does not leave the local culture and can become an icon in the hope that it can still preserve the existing customs or culture.

Abstract

Medan city has become the economic, political, educational, and socio-cultural center in North Sumatra Province. Medan has a variety of religions, cultures, and tribes. The development of education, especially universities, makes Medan one of the goals for students who have completed their education at the high school level. The college will bring students from out of town and within the city. In addition, clothing and residential food become one of the needs of students. Students from out of town will need temporary housing that can be rented during their college education. Accommodation must be tailored to the needs and culture of students. The apartment has become one of the alternative housing for students. Green Architecture is one of the alternatives in designing buildings, where this concept can minimize damage to the environment and building users. The application of energy-saving to structures will positively impact users of the building and the building itself.

Abstract

Traditional markets are known as one of the pillars of people’s economic state, and because of that, they need to be developed properly. Despite that, traditional markets nowadays have a negative stigma which is dirty and smelly. To increase the interest of residents, many factors can be used such as adjusting and improving traditional market facilities. Design elements can help in solving this problem by adding openings and adjusting market structure modules. This paper aims to provide more information about the effect of market openings and modules on air circulation (odor) in the market. The method used in this research is a literature study, namely by collecting data related to solutions to counteract the smelly market through articles, journals, and books. The existence of an opening is to provide natural air circulation into a room, also the sunlight helps eradicate bacteria inside the humid room. The arrangement of the modules is also important so the odor of each segment does not mix. The existence of traditional markets must be maintained and developed so that it is necessary to overcome the bad smell in the current market because it can affect and have an impact on the interest of visitors to come to traditional markets.
