Abstract

Automotive workshop activities generate waste water requiring some treatments before being discharged into receiving water surface. One of the wastewater treatment methods for is the electrocoagulation method. This study aims to observe the effectiveness of the electrocoagulation method in treating wastewater from automotive workshop activities. Observations were limited to the effect of current density on the efficiency of removal of pollutants from wastewater from automotive workshop activities, including pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) ,oil and grease Current density were varied into 62 A/m2, 53 A/m 2, and 31 A/m 2. The results showed that the highest removal efficiency for the pollutant parameters BOD, COD, and oil and grease respectively were 91.53%, 94.90%, and 81,38% at current density 62 A/m 2. The electrocoagulation process was strongly influenced by the current density, where the higher the current density, the higher the removal efficiency.

Abstract

Polisakarida alami seperti alginat dan kitosan merupakan salah satu adsorben yang paling efektif untuk menghilangkan ion logam berat yang ada dalam air limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengamobilisasi kitosan pada alginat untuk membentuk matriks polimer dalam bentuk bead dengan performance yang memiliki sifat mekanik kuat, stabil dan biodegradable. Bead kitosan-alginat dikarakterisasi dengan menggunakan FTIR dan SEM-EDX. Adsorben bead digunakan untuk penyerapan Cr(VI) dan Pb(II) dengan mempelajari parameter adsorbsi seperti pH, waktu kontak dan konsentrasi larutan. Adsorpsi Cr(VI) terjadi pada pH 2 dengan kapasitas adsorpsi 1,1 mg/g dan Pb(II) pada pH 5 dengan kapasitas adsorbsi 1,33 mg/g. Waktu kontak penyerapan Cr(VI diperoleh pada 120 menit dengan kapasitas adsorpsi 0,8 mg/g dan Pb(II) pada waktu 180 menit dengan kapasitas adsorbsi  mg/g. Konsentrasi Cr(VI) optimum pada 250 mg/L dengan kapasitas adsorpsi 17,35 mg/g dan Pb(II) 250 mg/L dengan kapasitas 21,23 mg/g. Isoterm adsorpsi ion logam Cr(VI) dan Pb(II) pada bead CS/CA mengikuti model Freundlich dan Langmuir.
