Abstract

The study aimed of this research to determine whether the storytelling method affects students' speaking skills. This study used experimental research, which consist of two group, namely, Experimental group and control group. The populations of this research were 20 students and divided became 2 samples each sample consist of 10 students. The experimental group implied Storytelling method and used pre-test, treatment, and post-test while the control group implied conventional method and used pre-test, post-test and no treatment. From this method, the researchers found the difference of implementing the storytelling method towards students’ achievement with the result was satisfying. The result of this research also provided the effectiveness of implementing the storytelling towards student achievement in speaking skill with compare the value that students’ got from post-test and the storytelling method is considered successful. From the result, it is conclude that implementing the storytelling method has and effect toward students’ speaking skill

Abstract

This research aims to determine wheater employing the language game Spelling Bee as a reading comprehension strategy for eighth-graders at SMPN 7 Medan in the academic year 2021/2022 is effective or not. This quantitative research with a quasi-experimental study utilizes a pretest, treatment, and post-test design. The population of this study is 288 eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Medan in the academic year 2021/2022, and the sample is 40 students. The data is collected through a multiple-choice test consisting of 10 questions with four choices and the write-down of the meanings of 10 words. The Spelling Bee game contains the study's independent variable, while students' reading comprehension is the study's dependent variable. According to the computation, the post-test result shows that the experimental group's mean score is 85, which is considered good, and the control group's mean is 58,75, which is considered sufficient. It can be concluded that using the language game Spelling Bee as a strategy effectively improves students' reading comprehension at SMPN 7 Medan eighth-grade students in the academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe students' ability in understanding narrative text and the factors that influence it. The purpose of this study is toanalyze students' ability to understand narrative text and the factors that influence it. This research method used descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted at SMP N 7 Medan. The subjects of this study were 30 students of class IX-6. This research used question answering test and interview test instruments. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the average comprehension ability of narrative text was 82.33 (high ability), then from the data it was also found that the factor that most influenced students' reading comprehension ability at SMP N 7 Medan was the word meaning factor with a percentage of 29.54% out of 100%, followed by vocabulary 27.27%, grammar 25% and linguistic factors 18.18%. The main cause is the limited vocabulary owned by the students.Keywords: Reading, Narrative text, influencing factors, Ability Analysis
