Abstract

The effect of tourism on function adaptation, forms and space of puri architecture, a case study: at Puri Saren Agung Ubud Balinese traditional architecture is an architecture that grows and develops in the midst of its people. Efforts to safeguard Balinese culture (including its architecture) as a magnet (tourism) of attraction have been carried out since the Dutch Colonial government as "Baliseering", followed by the new order Government through "Tourism-Culture" and the latest entering the 21st century with slogans "Ajeg Bali”. At the present time it cannot be denied that tourism is Bali's main commodity sector in the development effort and increasing the level of welfare of the people (including the puri family). Puri is a palace and the center of government in the era of the kingdom in Bali. Puri has the essence and important role in the community until now. Some tourist activities within the Puri include royal wedding, royal dinner, art performances & exhibitions, guest houses and so on. This condition resulted in the occurrence of an architectural adaptation of both the function, spatial structure and shape of the building according to the needs of tourists, while on the other hand there was an effort to maintain the existence of Balinese castle architecture. This study was designed using a qualitative method with a descriptive approach at Puri Saren Agung Ubud. Puri as an architectural object in the past and efforts to maintain its existence both at present and in the future can be seen as a factual and interesting topic for the development of traditional (traditional) architectural science, specifically related to the social and cultural development of Balinese society. © 2019 Rachmat Budihardjo
