Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 is a group of disorders characterized by elevated blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia). This condition is caused by a decrease in the body's ability to respond to insulin (insulin resistance) or due to a decrease in the amount of insulin by the pancreas. Mean platelet volume (MPV) indicates platelets' mean size and activity. In diabetics, a high MPV value can predict an increased risk of thrombosis and chronic complications. This study aimed to determine the relationship between MPV values and blood glucose in Type 2 DM. The type of this research was observational analytic with a cross-sectional design; the respondents were type II diabetes mellitus patients at the Gajahan Health Center Surakarta from May to July 2018. The results of the Spearman test obtained p = 0.082 so that p > (0.05), then H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected so that it can be concluded that there is no relationship between MPV values and Blood Glucose Levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Abstract Background: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is certainly likely to increase with the increasing prevalence of obesity. A reliable indicator and easy-to-use for measuring body fat is body mass index (BMI), in the state of obesity there is a disruption of adiposity balance that is released and as an early marker of inflammation and triggers the formation of C-Reactive protein in the liver. Objectives: The goal of the study was to analyze the relationship between BMI and Titer C-Reactive Protein in women.. Research Metodes: This study is an observational analytical study with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was women aged 25-65 years. A total of 39 samples were conducted in quota sampling. The data was analyzed with Kendal's tau non parametric test. Findings: The results of the study obtained a value of significance or Sig. (2-tailed) 0.908 > 0.05, This result states that there is no relationship between body mass index and titer C-Reactive protein. Correlation coefficient value is -0.015, express a very weak linear relationship. Negative values indicate the opposite direction of the relationship, where the higher the BMI, the lower the C-Reactive protein titer. Conclusion: Statistical test results obtained a value of p (0.908) > α (0.05), it states that no significant association between BMI and Titer C-Reactive Protein in women

Abstract

Chemical exposure during the dyeing process in the Textile industry has the potential to cause health problems, particularly allergic reactions mediated by Immunoglobulin E (IgE). Non-compliance with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may increase the risk of chemical exposure through inhalation and skin contact, thereby triggering an allergic immune response characterized by elevated total IgE levels in the blood. This study aimed to determine the relationship between compliance with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and total Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels among Textile industry workers. This research was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 15 Textile industry workers who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data on PPE compliance were obtained through questionnaires and interviews, while total IgE levels were measured using the Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA) method. The relationship analysis was conducted using Fisher’s Exact test. The results showed a significant relationship between PPE compliance and total IgE levels (p<0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant association between compliance with the use of Personal Protective Equipment and total Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels among Textile industry workers.

Abstract

Creatinine is a waste product of body metabolism that is excreted by glomerular filtration in the kidneys. One method for measuring serum creatinine is the Jaffe Reaction which is based on the reaction between creatinine and picric acid in an alkaline medium, forming a red-orange complex. Creatinine reagents have a shorter shelf life or stability, especially after being mixed into a monoreagent. Monoreagents that are delayed may affect the levels of the analyte being tested. Based on this, the study aims to determine the effect of variations in monoreagent delay time at room temperature on creatinine levels. This research used an analytical experimental design and was conducted in the STIKES Nasional laboratory. A total of 10 samples were obtained using quota sampling from students of class 2A2, D-III Medical Laboratory Technology, STIKES Nasional Surakarta. A total of 30 data points were analyzed using the non-parametric Friedman test. The results showed that the average creatinine levels at 0 minutes, 3 hours, and 4 hours were 0.611 mg/dL, 0.555 mg/dL, and 0.572 mg/dL, respectively. Normality testing indicated the data were not normally distributed, so that the non-parametric Friedman test was used. The test results showed a p-value of 0.014 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference. In conclusion, variation in monoreagent delay time at room temperature affects creatinine levels.

Abstract

SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) is a liver enzyme that plays an important role in assessing hepatocellular damage. The stability of reagents, especially monoreagents consisting of a mixture of reagent 1 and reagent 2, affects the accuracy of laboratory test results. Delaying the use of monoreagent at room temperature may influence the enzymatic activity of SGPT. This study aims to determine the difference in SGPT levels between the monoreagent used immediately and the monoreagent delayed for 5 days at room temperature. This study used an experimental design with 16 serum samples from second-year students in the Diploma III Medical Laboratory Technology Program. SGPT levels were measured using the Clima MC-15 photometer. Two conditions were tested: monoreagent used immediately after mixing and monoreagent stored for 5 days at room temperature. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and because the data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon test was used. The results showed that the average SGPT level using the immediate monoreagent was 10.69 U/L, while the delayed monoreagent showed an average of 9.88 U/L. Of the 16 samples, 9 decreased, 3 increased, and 4 remained unchanged. The Wilcoxon test produced a significance value of 0.030 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the two conditions. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in SGPT levels immediate monoreagent use and delayed monoreagent use for 5 days at room temperature. It is recommended that monoreagent be used immediately after mixing to maintain accurate examination results.

Abstract

Typhoid fever was an infectious disease caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and Enteritidis. Laboratory tests most commonly performed in cases of typhoid fever included leukocyte count and C-reactive protein (CRP) measurement. Leukocytes played a role in the immune response to infection, while CRP increased as a result of the inflammatory response and was therefore used as an indicator of disease activity. This research intended to examine the correlation amongst C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and leukocyte count in pediatric patients with typhoid fever. This was an observational analytic descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of CRP levels and leukocyte count results obtained from the medical records of 84 pediatric patients aged 6 to 17 years diagnosed with typhoid fever at RSIA Brawijaya Duren Tiga during the period of July to December 2025, selected utilizing a purposive sampling technique. The findings of univariate and bivariate analyses showed that most pediatric typhoid patients were female, totalling 48 (57%) children, and the longest duration of fever was 7 days, observed in 53 (63%) children. The most common CRP finding was abnormal levels in 46 (55%) children, with the highest level reaching 168.80 mg/L. The leukocyte count was most commonly within the normal range in 44 (52%) children. Correlation test results indicated a significant correlation amongst CRP levels and leukocyte count, with a moderately strong positive correlation, as evidenced by a significance value of 0.002 and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.326.
