Abstract

The primary aim of this study was to explore the effectiveness of teaching writing skill using E-Writing application in distance learning from the viewpoints of higher education students of Islamic State University of Semarang. Mix method were used as the research design. The quantitative data were obtained through one group pretest posttest design to know the effectiveness of the application to student’s writing achievement. Then, a questionnaire was used to investigate student’s attitude toward the writing application.  The results of the writing test showed that student’s writing was improved. The average score of student’s pre-test score was increased for about 27 points, from 59 points to 86 points on post- test. The analysis of student’s questionnaire demonstrated conceptions about using technology of doing independent learning especially in English learning. The study showed that students admit the effectiveness of technology in distance learning and they believe that having learning independency will help them to adapt in any situations

Abstract

This research analyzed speaking anxiety that occurred in English Classes at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Humanities UIN Walisongo Semarang. The aim of this research is to analyze students’ speaking anxiety and its cause and effects. Research participants were students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Humanities UIN Walisongo who took the English Class in Academic Year 2021/2022. The total sample was 86 students out of 417 students. This study used questionnaires and interviews as a data collection method. The finding showed that most students have a high level of speaking anxiety. The interview also showed that students’ anxiety was caused by lack of vocabulary, problems with confidence, making mistakes fears and shyness.

Abstract

The contract between teacher and student or what is often called as teacher-student agreement is one of the class management in applying student discipline. Good class management, especially in student discipline, is considered important in creating a conducive learning atmosphere. In conventional learning, teacher and student contracts regarding student discipline are related to how students' attitudes in participating in learning, such as students not being allowed to go around the class while learning is taking place, students are not allowed to be busy with other things besides those related to learning and others. At this time, when online learning or distance learning is applied, of course this contract is also undergoing changes. There is a disciplinary agreement between the teacher and students that adapts to distance learning conditions. This study aims to identify the learning discipline contract between students and teachers in distance learning. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. The data were analysed descriptively to get a description of the agreement between teachers and students in online learning and the type of agreement that commonly used. The findings show that the most widely regulation is related to student’s obedience in following teacher’s instruction in online class. This study also revealed that learning contract is an effective way to create a successful online learning based on teacher’s perspectives.
