Abstract

Botanical pesticides produced from tobacco plants are reported to be the most toxic compared to other types of plants because it contain 2-8% nicotine substances. The objective of this research was to examine the effect of tobacco dust waste extracts and determine the concentration of the most effective tobacco dust waste extract against armyworms. This research was conducted in Laboratory of Pest and Plant Disease and C Green House Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta from April-July 2018. The stages of this study include the multiplication of S. litura test larvae, preparation of botanical insecticides from tobacco dust waste, mortality test, antifeedant test and phytotoxicity test. This study used a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The results showed that tobacco dust waste was able to increase the mortality of S. litura larvae, but with a slower effect compared to the treatment of profenofos. Feeding barriers are not seen in the test larvae. The phytotoxicity test shows that tobacco dust waste was not toxic to plants. Based on probit analysis, the concentration of tobacco dust waste which was capable of killing 50% of the population of S. litura was equal to 53.10 gL-1.

Abstract

Mechanical control as an effort to reduce Erionata thrax attacks needs to develop of them was torning the leaves. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of leaf torning on the intensity of the damage and determine the level of E. thrax attack damage in various cultivars. This research was conducted in Semarang, Central Java from September-December 2018. This research used a field experiment method with four treatments of tearing distance of 0 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm in four banana cultivars, namely Mas Kirana, Ambon, Kepok, and Raja Bulu. The result showed that leaf damage was related to torning distance, but not to the cultivars. The value of regression between torning distance and leaf damage was very low. The torning distance of 40 cm had the highest leaf damage, number of larvae populations, and number of leaf rolls. The torning distance of 20 cm reduced the leaf damage, the number of larvae populations and the number of rolls. The lowest leaf damage is in Mas Kirana cultivar and the highest leaf damage is in Raja Bulu cultivars. Raja Bulu cultivar had the highest attack intensity.

Abstract

One type of vegetable products in Indonesia is cabbage. However, in the application of cultivating cabbage vegetables had experienced some problems, especially the crop caterpillar of Plutella xylostella. Pest control at the level of farmers in some areas, generally they still use chemical pesticides. As a solution for excessive use of chemical pesticides, the use of botanical insecticides is interesting to develop. One of the plant materials that is easily found in the surrounding environment is “beluntas” leaf (Pluchea indica L) containing alkaloids, flavonoids, saponnins, and tannins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leaves extract of (P. indica) on caterpillar mortality of P. xylostella and the phytotoxicity effect on pakcoy. The results of the research showed that the extract wasn't sufficiently able to affect the larvae mortality of P. xylostella, The treatment concentration of 30% however was able to suppress the emergence of the imago. The extract did not show any phytotoxicity symptom the pakcoy .
