Abstract

Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing banyak dipengaruhi oleh faktor baik internal maupun eksternal. Salah satu faktor internal yang berasaldari diri siswa yakni sikap yang direfleksikan siswa melalui tingkah laku mereka dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas. Bagaimana sikap yangditampilkan siswa akan menentukan tingkah laku, tindakan, dan keterlibatan siswa di dalam proses pembelajaran sehingga berujung pada tingkat pemahamansiswa atau kesuksesan siswa dalam mempelajari suatu materi. Oleh karenanya, agar dapat mengimplementasikan sebuah strategi yang baik, seorang gurupenting untuk mengukur atau megetahui bagaimana sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran yang diimplementasikan sehingga akan menjadi bahan refleksi bagi guru untuk menentukan strategi yang akan diimplementasikan dalam rangka pencapaian target pembelajaran. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang akan menyelidiki sikap siswa terhapap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris menggunakan metode observasi. Subjek penelitian yakni kelas X IPA 5 diSMAN 1 Abung Semuli yang terdiri dari 32 orang. Berdasarkan hasil observasi yang dilakukan selama 8 (delapan) pertemuan diketahui bahwa siswa kelas X IPA 5 di SMAN 1 Abung Semuli merefleksikan sikap positif terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Oleh karenanya, disarankan agar guru terus mendesain aktivitaspembelajarn yang mampu memunculkan sikap positif siswa terhadap proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

The schemata theory in reading explains that in the process of comprehending a reading material, a pre-exsistent knowledge of the readers will be active when they read a piece of reading material in which it presents a familiar vocabulary, patterns, or contexts in which they fit into the readers’ pre-exsistent knowledge. As a result, readers can recognize what they read because it fits into patterns what they already known. This research was categorized as a type of research and development in which it developed a reading material on the basis of the readers’ interest and content  familiarity which was constructed under the concept of  schemata theory in reading. The research stages consisted of conducting praresearch, developing a prototype, validating the prototype, and applying the design to the research sample. The researchers took a class of X social science class in SMAN 1 Abung Semuli consisting of 32 students as the research sample to apply the prototype of this research development product. The data analysis shows that the use of reading material based gender and cultural familiarity gives significant influence on the students’ reading comprehension in which to the conclusion that the prototype of this research product is effective to be used as a reading material in a reading class.

Abstract

The rapid grows of internet and technology affects the teaching and learning strategy applied in a classroom activity. Nowadays, students are getting more and more interested in the implementation of internet and technology in a teaching and learning process. Due to the fact that the use of on-line learning through the internet increases students’ interest, this study was conducted to find out the effect of blended learning on students’ motivation in speaking. As it is believed that speaking is such a complex skill to be mastered by students, this study is aimed at investigating how students’ motivation turned out to be after one semester taught using blended learning. This is a descriptive quantitative study in which the sample consisted of 34 students of the fourth semester in English Education Study Program STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi. A questionnaire was administered to the research sample in order to collect the data of students’ motivation. Refering to the data analysis, it was found that most of the students’ motivation belongs to high motivation level (52,94%), while 32,36% of the students’ motivation belong to medium level of motivation, and the rest (14,71%) of the students showing low motivation in speaking. The research findings reveal the fact that the use of blended learning is effective to boost students’ motivation in speaking class. Therefore, it is hopefully that the lecturers teaching in this class able to apply the similar strategy in which involving the classroom teaching with internet and technology in order to trigger students’ awareness to learn better.

Abstract

Language learning is affected by many factors including cognitive and affective factors. One of the affective factors which plays significant role to stimulate students’ motivation which then finally lead to help them achive the targeted achievement is self-awareness. Self-awareness is an affective facet of an individual which makes them able to understand their self-emotion and others, so it creates a good self-control within oneself. Self-awareness also helps an indivisual to recognize their strengths and weaknesses which encourage a good self-confident. This research was to investigate how the implementation of learning together method based lesson study affects students’ self-awareness. This research applied mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative method) in which the quantitative data was obtained from a questionnaire administered to the research sample after three learning cycles of lesson study applied. Meanwhile, the qualitative data was obtained throughout an observation during the teaching and learning process. The research sample was the third semester of English Education Study Program in STKIP Muhammadiyah kotabumi. Based on the research result, it is found that students’ self-awareness are high during the teaching and learning process throughout learning together method based lesson study so students enjoyed the teaching and learning process and they are easy to understand the material given.
