Abstract

English is approved as foreign language in Indonesian learner by distributing some aspect accepted there especially in culture. It involves Indonesian learner to explore it in globalization era. This causes the learner motivated that studying English is very important. So it is needed a new learning style to enrich reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by utilizing technology. It is blended learning that becomes one of the ways to improve English skills for the students. This research attempts at describing the use of blended learning in promote English skills at State Islamic Senior High School 01 Kudus. This is qualitative research. The data were collected by observing English teaching and learning using blended learning system and interviewing one of English teachers and five students at State Islamic Senior High School 01 Kudus. The result shows that the English teacher applied blended learning around two years. It is the combination between face-to-face classroom settings and using technology such as smartphone and computers of school. Students were asked to follow the teaching and learning English by using some applications, form and connecting the internet. The benefits and challenges will be faced in the teaching and learning activities. However, the students are more interested in promoting English skills by using blended learning.

Abstract

This paper mainly describes the importance of empowering the character education for Indonesian people in order to face Asean Economic Community (AEC). Nowadays, the Indonesian citizens have played a dominant role in meeting the Asean Community. Indeed, they will be the actors participating and implementing a number of public policies in Indonesia. As a matter of fact, AEC is the realization of the end goal of economic integration to deepen and broaden the economic integration through existing and new strategies using the principles of an open, inclusive and market-driven economy. Considering this, the existence of AEC can be both an opportunity and challenge for the Asean countries including Indonesia. The opportunity of AEC is it can be a single market and its productions will be more dynamic and accessible. On the other hand, Indonesia should have good preparations and numerous strategies to achieve the goal of AEC. Those strategies cover accelerating the regional integration in the main sectors, facilitating skilled labor and talents, fostering the nationality among Indonesian people, and etc. In accordance with the enforcement of nationality among Indonesian people, it is necessary to empower the character education for the Indonesian people since at an early age considering the values of character among teenagers have been lost. The implementation of the character education done within the family, school and community is considerably effective to enhance the Asean Economic Community in line with the principles of global citizenship.Keywords: Asean Economic Community, Character Education, Indonesian People

Abstract

The discourse analysis may seem quaint to discuss. One of the common domains of analyzing the critical discourse covers the public speech by which the speaker is trying to gain best response from the listener or audience. This article attempts at exploring the use of subjects in Donald Trump's Inauguration Speech. Subjects are mainly examined from a critical discourse analysis approach concerning on speech functions. The transcript of the speech is analyzed to describe personal pronouns used by Donald Trump in his inauguration speech. The result shows that by using pronouns, Donald Trump tries to represent himself and others indicating that the pronouns that he used is one of the devices to maintain a good interaction with the audience through the speech
