Abstract

Kutai Lama merupakan salah satu kota lama yang terdapat di daerah aliran Sungai Mahakam. Salah satu bukti hubungan antara Kutai Lama dengan dunia luar adalah banyaknya sebaran pecahan keramik asing, terutama dari Cina, yang padat di sepanjang tepian sungai. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memahami keberadaan keramik kuno di daerah aliran Sungai Mahakam. Adapun sasaran penelitian ini adalah bentuk dan variasi keramik, sehingga diketahuifungsi serta peranan keramik Cina pada masa itu. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena belum ada penelitian terdahulu yang mengulas tentang besarnya pengaruh eksistensi keramik Cina dalam perkembangan kebudayaan di kawasan Kutai Lama. Situs Kutai Lama merupakan kawasan penting bagi rekonstruksi sejarah awal perkembangan Islam di Kutai Kartanegara. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif-deskriptif, dan perbandingan-perbandingan berdasarkan literatur keramik Cina. Hasil analisis morfologi dan kronologi menunjukkan bahwa keramik Dinasti Song-Yuan mendominasi populasi temuan keramik di Kutai Lama. Hal ini menjadi indikasi komoditi dagang tersebut dihargai sebagai suatu hadiah, sehingga menjadi barang berharga yang dimiliki oleh kalangan tertentu atau tokoh masyarakat. Kutai Lama is one of the old towns located in the Mahakam River catchment. One of the items of evidence of the relationship between Kutai Lama and the outside world is a large number of fragments of foreign ceramic, especially from China, which was densely found along the banks of the river. The objective of this study was to understand the existence of old ceramics in the Mahakam River catchment. The target of this research was the form and variation of ceramics, thus providing information on the purpose and role of Chinese ceramics then. This research was conducted because there were no previous studies that reviewed the magnitude of the influence of the existence of Chinese ceramics in the cultural development in the Kutai Lama region. The Kutai Lama site is an important area for the reconstruction of the early history of Islamic development in Kutai Kartanegara. The research method used was qualitative-descriptive, and comparative based on Chinese ceramics literature. The results of the morphological and chronological analyses showed that the Song-Yuan Dynasty ceramics dominate the population of ceramic findings in Kutai Lama. This is an indication that such trade commodity was also valued as gifts, therefore, it became valuable items owned by certain groups or community leaders.

Abstract

The name Palembang began to appear in Indonesian archaeological records, starting from the discovery of Old Malay and Pallawa script inscriptions. The periodization of these inscriptions is ± 7th century AD. Since then, attention to the antiquity of this area has been given by experts with an interest in the field of ancient Indonesian history. Shnitger, Westenenk, Coedes are examples of enthusiasts who have had considerable interest in the relics of this area.

Abstract

Pada daerah aliran Sungai Musi dan Batanghari di Sumatera, terdapat sebaran arca-arca Buddha dari abad ke-7 hingga ke-10 Masehi. Berdasarkan karakteristiknya, maka dapat diketahui pengaruh kebudayaan pembuatannya, serta kronologi pembuatannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memahami perkembangan wilayah pengaruh agama Buddha dan kawasan politik dan agama Kerajaan Sriwijaya pada abad ke-7-9 Masehi berdasarkan pengamatan karakteristik arca Buddha. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode seriasi terhadap tipe dan bentuk arca untuk mengetahui pola sebaran situs yang dipengaruhi oleh perkembangan agama Buddha pada masa tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lokasi-lokasi ditemukannya arca-arca Buddha selaras dengan perkembangan kebudayaan dan aktivitas politik masyarakat kerajaan Sriwijaya pada abad ke-7-9 Masehi. Perkembangan tersebut diawali dari hilir daerah aliran Sungai Musi, dan bergerak ke arah hulu daerah aliran Sungai Batanghari. Pada skala makro, tampak pula perkembangan kawasan pengaruh kebudayaannya mulai dari Sumatera bagian selatan ke Jambi, Sumatera bagian barat, dan Aceh.A number of 7th-9th centuries Buddhist statues are found distributed on the catchment areas of Sungai Musi and Sungai Batanghari, in Sumatera. The characteristics of Buddhist statues may suggest the cultural influence of their manufacture, as well as the technology and chronology. The purpose of this study is to understand the development of the area of influence of Buddhism and the political and religious region of the Sriwijaya Kingdom in the 7th-9th centuries, based on observing the characteristics of Buddha statues. This research was conducted using the seriation method on the type and shape of the statues to determine the distribution patterns of sites that were influenced by the development of Buddhism at that time. The results showed that the locations where the Buddha statues were found were in accord with the cultural developments and political activities of the people of the Sriwijaya kingdom in the 7th-9th centuries. This development began from the downstream regions of the Musi River catchment and moves towards the upstream regions of the Batanghari River catchment. On a macro scale, the regional development of the culture-influenced commenced from southern Sumatra upwards to Jambi, western Sumatra and Aceh.

Abstract

Candi Sintong adalah candi yang terletak di wilayah muara Sungai Rokan, yang secara administratif termasuk wilayah Desa Sintong, Kecamatan Tanah putih, Kabupaten Rokan Hilir, Provinsi Riau. Penelitian bersama antara Bidang Sejarah dan Purbakala Pemda TK I Provinsi Riau dan Pusat Arkeologi Nasional, melalui ekskavasi pada tahun 2007 dan 2010 menemukan seperangkat artefak berbahan emas. Temuan tersebut menarik, baik dari segi bentuk maupun keletakannya. Tulisan ini membahas temuan emas tersebut dari segi bentuk dan keletakannya, untuk mengetahui fungsi dan peranan temuan dalam kesejarahan situs Candi Sintong. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis arkeologi ruang, baik dalam skala mikro maupun semi makro. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara keletakan temuan emas dengan fungsi, dan kedudukannya berdasarkan konsep ritual Buddha, seperti yang disebutkan dalam kitab suci agama Buddha. Sintong temple is located in the Rokan River estuary which is administratively included in Sintong Village, Tanah Putih Subdistrict, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province. Joint research between History and Antiquities Affairs of Riau province and the National Archaeological Center has found a set of gold findings as results of excavations in 2007 and 2010. Gold is quite interesting in terms of both, form and position. This paper discusses the gold findings in order to recognize itsfunction and role in the history of Sintong temple.The method used is qualitatif with spatial archaeological analysis, in bothmicro and semi macro scales. The result shows correlation between location and function of the artifacts in ritual concepts,as it is said in the Buddhist holy book.
