Abstract

African leaves (Gymnanthemum amygdalinum Del.) And palm oil leaves (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) Have been shown to contain flavonoid compounds, where they are efficacious as antidiabetic. This study aims to determine the combined effectivenessof ethanol extract of African leaves and palm oil leaves as antidiabetic in white rats. The study was conducted using the method of alloxan induction and measured using glucometers. 15 animals were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control, positive control, group I combination of ethanol extract of african leaves and oil palm leaves 25 + 25 mg/kg weight, group II combination of ethanol extract of african leaves and palm oil leaves of 50 + 50 mg/kg weight, group III combination of ethanol extract of African leaves and leaves of oil palm 100 + 100 mg/kg weight for 15 days. Examination of antidiabetic effects is done by comparing the KGD value of the rats before and after treatment. The results of this study indicate that the three doses have antidiabetic effects. Data on the differences in the KGD of rats were carried out statistically using the Shapiro Wilk normality test and the Levene homogeneity test and continued with the ANOVA test. The conclusion of this study is that the dose is the most effective in reducing blood glucose levels in rats, which is a dose of 100 + 100 mg/dl because it mostly decreases blood glucose levels.

Abstract

The krokot is a weed that usually grows in plantations. In scientific language, purslane is called Portulaca oleracea L. Purslane is well-known as a nutritious plant in several countries such as China, Mexico, and Greece. In Indonesia, purslane is also known to have uses, or a substitute for ginseng. This aims of the study to determine the effectiveness of purslane herb ethanol extract ointment on wound healing in white rats. This research was conducted using an experimental method. In this study, phytochemical screening and simplicia characterization were carried out. Incision wound healing effect was tested on 25 male white rats with 5 treatment subgroups, namely positive control, negative control, purslane herb ethanol extract ointment 10%, purslane herb ethanol extract ointment 20%, purslane herb ethanol extract ointment 30%. The ointment base used is Vaseline album, liquid paraffin, and solid paraffin. All formulations of purslane herb 10%, 20% and 30%, met the requirements for evaluation of ointment preparations. Phytochemical screening results showed positive containing flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The results of the characterization of purslane herb simplicia powder obtained water content of 8.37%, water soluble extract content of 11.35%, ethanol soluble extract content of 10.99%, total ash content of 7.46% and acid insoluble ash content of 0.88%. The average results of observation of incision wounds in white rats were concentrations of 10% (22 mm) for 14 days, 20% (0.1 mm) for 14 days, 30% (0.04 mm) for 14 days. While the positive control (betadine ointment) was (0 mm) and the negative control (ointment base) was (0.42 mm). It can be concluded that purslane herb ethanol extract can provide effectiveness and antioxidants for wound healing in white rats. The purslane herb 30% ethanol extract has almost comparable effectiveness with betadine ointment in healing incisional wounds in white rats.

Abstract

Inflamation is the body’s defense mechanism in response to tissue injury and interference by external factors. Pearl grass (Hedyotis Corymbosa L.Lamk) is one of Rubiaceae family. Pearl grass have efficacy in the treatment as anti-inflamatory, anti-diabetic, anti-bacteria, and antioxidant. Pearl grass contains flavonoids has pharmacological effects as a anti-inflamatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflamatory effect of ethanolic extract of pearl grass (EERM) on white rats incuded by λ- carragenan. This research was conducted by experimental method which included pearl grass extraction, phytochemical screening, and anti-inflamatory activity test of ethanolic of pearl gras with paw edema method using digital plethysmometer. As experimental animals 15 rats were divided into 5 groups, each group were 3 rats. As an inductor λ-carragenan 1 % was administered intraplantar. Sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (Na-CMC) 0,5 % as negative control, 2,25 mg/kg bw diclofenac dose as positif control and ethanolic extract of pearl grass dose 100 mg/kg bw, dose 200 mg/kg bw, and dose of 400 mg/kg bw as a test material given orally. Observations were made for 6 hours. The test data were analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA and continuced with Tukey’s B.The results of phytochemical indicated that ethanolic extract of pearl grass contained alkaloids, flavanoid, saponins, tanin and glycosides. The dosage of ethanolic extract of pearl grass 100 mg/kg bw, dose 200 mg/kg bw, dose 400 mg/kg bw has the effect as anti-inflamatory. The effective dose of ethanol extract of pearl grass as an anti-inflamatory in white rats was 400 mg/kg bw.
