Abstract

The variety of learning by applying teaching techniques in a fun, effective and efficient manner provides an important role in the learning process of children. Therefore, this community service activity aims to train the participants' abilities in teaching techniques that are specialized in games, songs and storytelling in English. This activity was carried out by using Google Meeting for two days. In addition, the uses of learning media and class routine activities are the goal of this community service. 18 participants participated in this activity, most of whom were kindergarten teachers. The implementation was carried out using the methods of lecturing, brainstorming and discussion, demonstration and mentoring. The results show that the participants' knowledge and understanding of the given themes increased. Participants are also able to answer several questions at the end of the session and be involved in online game activities. The results of the evaluation show that this activity is very useful and beneficial in increasing their ability to implement  more varied teaching techniques that are in accordance with the abilities of kindergarten children.

Abstract

For vocational high school graduates to be accepted in business and industry, increasing the ability to use international languages, one of which is English is one of the main goals. Thus, the purpose of this community service is to train the students in understanding presentations appropriately. While the particular objectives are: 1) Improve the knowledge of strategies of writing and presentations in English well; 2) Enrich English vocabulary; 3) Improve writing and speaking skill; 4) Increase self-confidence, and 5) Prepare them to become professional graduates in terms of mastering English. There are thirty students of 12th grade of SMKN 56 North Jakarta participating in this training. The training was conducted within 12 hours, which was divided into three sessions for two days. At each meeting, students were monitored and practiced under the trainers’ guidance. The trainers also showed two examples of good presentations on YouTube. The training techniques are the lecture, discussion, brainstorming, and demonstration / direct practice that train students to understand every step by step in presentation and writing. The results show that students’ self-confidence developed, and vocabulary mastery, writing, and presentation skills increased as well. Out of 30 students, 5 participants delivered a presentation without reading the text. Although the results were not significant, the students had active participation in the discussion and practiced in groups and gave the speech in public. The evaluation result was 38.79 of a 1-4 scale with an excellent category. It is concluded that this training is highly needed and useful for vocational students.

Abstract

The learner guided study is innovative learning activity planned by a group of teachers considered better than those made by the individual teacher. However, its effectiveness in retaining the students learning is still dubious since there is no apparent connection between students' learning variety and needs. The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the learner-guided study in improving students’ analytical exposition writing competence. The participants were thirty high school students in grade eleventh. They often encountered difficulties in mastering analytical exposition due to the lack of specific practices. The data analysis was carried out using a mixed-method design. They were gathered from the analytical exposition writing tests and interviews. The results from this study demonstrated that the Experimental group taught with a guided lesson study surpassed the Control Group taught by the unguided lesson study. The guided lesson helped students achieve the learning goals of the analytical exposition aspects. This study recommends that this procedure be used to teach writing in any genre, as it could improve the students’ writing skills.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM ini diadakan untuk memberi bantuan kepada guru Bahasa Inggris Tsanawiyah dibawah naungan MGMP Karawang karena masih menghadapi kesulitan dalam memahami penyusunan artikel ilmiah. Banyak guru yang tidak tertarik mempublikasikan hasil penelitian merekan karena tidak memahami pedoman penyusunan artikel ilmiah. Hal ini merupakan salah satu sebab mengapa guru tidak termotivasi untuk menulis artikel ilmiah. Tujuan utama Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat kali ini adalah memberikan pelatihan cara menulis jurnal artikel, memotivasi guru untuk menulis, dan mendampingi guru menulis artikel ilmiah. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan di Karawang dengan peserta 25 guru Bahasa Inggris Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Pelatihan diadakan secara Luring, jadi guru mendapat kesempatan untuk bertanya dan berlatih secara inter aktif. Metode pelatihan dan instrument yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) Metode lecturing/ ceramah.  Pada saat menggunakan metode ini Tim Pengmas Uhamka memberikan ceramah dengan menggunakan Ppt dan contoh Artikel jurnal Sinta 2-6 (2), metode diskusi dan tanya away. Instrument yang digunakan adalah wawancara secara mendalam kepada peserta. Peserta dapat mengajukan pertanyaan mengenai penulisan artikel ilmiah dan dijawab oleh Tim Pengmas. Peserta juga bertanya mengenai contoh artikel yang dibagikan kepada para peserta. (3) Metode simulasi. Peserta mulai berlatih dengan menggunakan artikel yang sudah dikirim. Instrument yang digunakan adalah interview secara mendalam.Pelatihan yang diadakan oleh Tim Pengmas ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pengetahuan yang bermanfaat bagi guru dalam menyusun artikel ilmiah yang ada hubungannya dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran.Kata kunci: Artikel ilmiah, Menulis, Pelatihan
