Abstract

The goal of Government Policy on converting the utilization of kerosene to LPG is to reduce kerosene consumption and fuel oil subsidy. As kerosene has higher pollutants and greenhouse gases emissions rather than LPG, the program also has impact on reducing those emissions that would lead to improving indoor air quality. Higher energy efficiency of LPG stove and more reserve production ratio (R/P) of gas can be attributed to the advantages of utilization of LPG. Indirectly, the conversion kerosene to LPG has another impact on reducing illegal blending between gasoline or diesel with kerosene for transportation sector. The program not only has economical advantages, but also has environmental advantages.Key words: LPG, kerosene, fuel oil subsidy, energy efficiency, indoor air quality

Abstract

As the energy consumption continues to increase, while, the most of the energy consumption is met from oil, and the oil supply is going to limited; energy diversification is needed. Ethanol can be used as an option for the energy diversification. Ethanol is a renewable energy and environmentally friendly fuel which used as an energy alternative in the transportation sector can reduce the gasoline consumption. As gasoline is one of subsidized fuels and imported fuel, reducing gasoline consumption has also impact on reducing oil subsidy and import. As the ethanol has lower greenhouse gas of CO2, and pollutant emissions of CO, NOx, SO2, and particulate matters, ethanol utilization for energy is safe for human health and environment. Ethanol also has higher octane number and oxygen content that lead to better performance of the fuel and vehicle. Ethanol fuel program is also more creating job opportunities.

Abstract

As the energy consumption continues to increase, pollutants and greenhousegases emissions from the energy utilization also increases. The increase ofthose emissions has impacts on environmental problems that harmful for theecosystem and the population. Program action needed to reduce the energyconsumption. Improving the efficiency of energy use is the most effective wayto address simultaneously several national issues. It is not only can reduce theenergy consumption, but also it can reduce the pollutant and greenhouse gasesemissions. The program also can strengthen the national energy security. Theenergy efficiency program has been implemented in some countries, but Japan isthe most advance country on energy efficiency

Abstract

As a result of population pressure, deforestation in Java has increasedconsiderably that causes an increase on critical land. The situation is worsened by increasing of kerosene and diesel prices that causes to an increase on fuelwood utilization that would lead to increase of illegal cutting. The increase of critical land could lead to increase of soil erosion, landslide, and flood as a result of a reduction in water absorption and soil retention. The Department of Forestry has initiated a reforestation program to ameliorate the situation. However, as the limited budget, the economics of the program needs to be examined further. Based on benefit-cost ratios, economic contributions of the fuelwood component indicated that the reforestation program or energy plantation was economically unfeasible. However, by including benefits of soil erosion control the program waseconomically attractive on some sites. A methodology was developed to prioritize which critical land to reforest. This was applied by identifying market price of fuelwood at minimum yield that would justify an energy plantation investment. The method indicated that subject to budget availability, critical lands should be reforested in descending order of productive potential until the site of minimum yields is reached.
