Abstract

Plastics are widely used in various kinds of human life needs. The most important problem is plastic waste which cannot be decomposed naturally. It takes a very long time to clean plastic waste from the face of the earth. Moreover, the use of plastic is almost uncontrollable. Ecobrick is a creative effort to manage plastic waste into useful objects, reducing pollution and toxins generated by plastic waste. Its function is not to destroy plastic waste, but to extend the life of these plastics and process them into something useful, which can be used for the benefit of humans in general. Ecobricking is a plastic waste management technique made from used plastic bottles in which various plastic waste has been filled to the brim and then compacted until it becomes hard. After the bottles are full and hard, they can be assembled with glue and assembled into tables, simple chairs, building materials for walls, towers, small stages, and even have the potential to be assembled into fences and foundations for simple playgrounds and even houses. The partners involved in this Community Service activity are students and teachers at SD Inpres Kantisang. The solution offered is the management and processing of PET bottle waste that arises from the school environment into ecobricks which can be reused in the school environment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the socialization carried out is by providing flash media to the school. The flashdisk contains educational and animated videos, as well as instructions for sorting waste and making ecobricks. The school will include this socialization material in Thematic learning in grade 5 and grade 6, and it is also used as a support for the Adiwiyata program at SD Inpres Kantisang - Tamalanrea.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the aggregate characteristics of the Bittuang River, determine composition of the AC-WC mixture and find out the Marshall characteristics, the remaining Immersion Index in the AC-WC mixture. The methodology in this research was to conduct a series of characteristics testing in the form of coarse aggregates, fine aggregates, fillers, and asphalt and then design a mixture composition then make test specimens in the form of AC-WC and Marshall Conventional testing. The results showed that the aggregate characteristics originating from the Bittuang River, Tana Toraja Regency, for the AC-WC mixture met the spesifications required by the 2018 Bina Marga standards. Based on the design of the composition of the mixture of AC-WC using Bittuang River aggregate is 36.90% coarse aggregate, 50.30% fine aggregate, 5.80% filler, with optimum asphalt content of 7.00%. The results of testing the characteristics of the AC-WC mixture through conventional Marshall tests obtained the characteristics of a mixture derived from meeting the specifications of stability, flow, VIM, and VFB, while for VMA it does not meet the specification requirements 5.00% asphalt content. While the Marshall Immersion test results (Residual Strength Index) on the mixtureof Laston AC-WC using aggregate Bittuang River, Bittuang District Tana Toraja Regency met the General Spesifications of the 2018 Highways, namely 95.03%>90%.

Abstract

Groundwater is one source of clean water that widely used by people in Indonesia, including in Borongloe Village, Bontomarannu District, Gowa Regency. However, groundwater utilization often experiences problems due to the presence of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) in ground water which can cause health problems if consumed continuously. The presence of these two substances in groundwater causes the color of the water to turn yellow-brown after some time in contact with air. In addition, there is often an unpleasant odor and yellow spots on clothes and water storage containers. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and understanding people of Borongloe Village regarding the requirements for clean water quality and groundwater treatment technology. The method purpose is to achieve the goals that have been set is to carry out socialization of the well water treatment method using a silica sand filter, manganese zeolite and activated carbon. The socialization activity was carried out at the Borongloe village head office, attended by twenty-five participants. The enthusiasm of the participants is very well in participating the socialization, this proved by the sincerity in receiving the material and the desire to ask questions during the activity. The results of the post test showed that 50% - 80% of the participants really understood the socialization material which includes requirements for clean water quality, manufactured and media for clean water filters as well as operation and maintenance of clean water filters.

Abstract

Oil and grease are one type of waste that has not been handled properly. If this waste is discharged into the environment without going through a treatment process, it can cause blockages in the pipeline and pollution in the waters. Waste oil and fat treatment can be applied in households, but it is still constrained by the selection of simple, cheap, and easy-to-apply processing technology. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge of the people of Romanglompoa Village regarding the types of technology that can be used to treat waste oil and fat and to improve people's skills in making grease traps. The method used to achieve the goals and targets that have been set is by carrying out training activities on making simple grease traps in community residential areas. The counseling activity was carried out at the Romanglompoa village office and attended by thirty participants. The enthusiasm of the participants was very high in participating in the counseling, this can be seen from the seriousness in receiving the material and the desire to ask questions during the activity. The post-test results showed that 50% – 64% of participants understood the counseling material which included the impact of waste oil and fat on the environment, the types of technology that can be used to treat waste oil and grease, and improve community skills through training activities on making simple grease traps.
