Pesantren is the oldest place for broadcasting religion and education in Indonesia. Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institution in Indonesia that plays an important role in preserving and developing Islamic science. Also, Islamic boarding schools play a role in shaping the character of Indonesian Muslims. During the New Order, pesantren competed with schools recognized by the government. Also, the pattern of modern human life affects the existence of pesantren as traditional Islamic educational institutions. To maintain its existence, pesantren made several changes deemed necessary, but still preserved tradition. Identification of existing problems is the first step in efforts to continuously improve the quality and quality of these educational institutions. The problems in this research are what problems are faced by pesantren in the era of globalization in Indonesia. In collecting the data, several methods were used, namely: observation and documentation. The results in this study indicate that there are several problems faced by pesantren in Indonesia, namely: Low equal distribution of learning opportunities, low academic quality, traditional teaching methods, and not many variations, changing curriculum policies, and inadequate educational facilities.
