Abstract

The problems discussed in this research are (1) what are the microstructural aspects that build discourse on Lifebuoy bar soap advertisements? (2) What are the macrostructural aspects that build discourses on Lifebuoy bar soap advertisements? This type of research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data source used is the written data source for Lifebuoy bar soap advertisements which are downloaded from the official website of lifebuoy.co.id. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases in lines on Lifebuoy bar soap advertisements that contain discourses on microstructural and macrostructural aspects. Data classification in this study was carried out by sorting and selecting data according to the research objectives of the discourse on microstructural and macrostructural aspects. The method of providing data in this study is the observation method. This method will be realized through advanced technique I: Speaking Free Talking Technique or SBLC technique and advanced technique II: note taking technique. This technique is carried out by taking data related to the problem being studied, namely the microstructural and macrostructural discourse. The methods and data analysis techniques used are the split method and referential equivalent method. Agih method is used to analyze microstructural aspects, namely grammatical and lexical aspects. The equivalent method is used to analyze the macrostructural aspects, namely contextual. The data presentation method used is the informal presentation method. The results of the discussion and data analysis show that: (1) The microstructural aspect of the data source is found markers of grammatical and lexical aspects. There were 39 reference markers, 0 substitution markers, 3 ellipsis markers, 32 conjunction markers, the most common markers were reference markers, (2) Macrostructural aspect implies that the dominance of reference markers is likely to indicate lifebuoy bar soap is the pioneer of health soap.

Abstract

Indonesian students often face difficulties when they have to write in English. Especially, they are asked to form standard and acceptable sentence structures. This study aims to describe the types of syntactic errors contained in the fifth semester student clause of the English study program, find the most dominant type of error and describe the factors that might be the cause of the error. Data was collected from the writing of semester V students of the English study program 2018-2019. This research uses descriptive analysis method. Data were analyzed by classifying errors using linguistic categories Language error category (West, 2008). The researcher used Corder ’s theory (1982) for searching the causes of syntactic errors made by the students. These theories ultimately strengthen the researcher's hypothesis that the cause of syntactic errors made by students is the interlingual factor namely the first language interference in the target language. Based on the findings, the most numerous and dominant errors are verbs (verb) not in accordance with the subject.

Abstract

This research investigated the errors of English pronunciation on silent lettters by the fourth semester students of English Department STBA JIA. The focus of this research were 1) to find out errors of pronunciation made by the fourth semester students of STBA JIA, 2) to find out the causes of the error and 3) to find out the errors mostly exist in this case. This research combined theory from Carney (2012) and Crystal (2012) about silent letters, theory by Corder in Ellis (2008) about steps of error analysis, theory of phonotactic constraints of English from Brinton (2010) and Indonesian from Alwi et al (2017). Twenty students of English Department Programme at STBA JIA were assigned to pronounce 30 English words containing silent letters in the initial, medial, and final position of the word. The frequency of errors was calculated in percentage. In this research, the writer used descriptive qualitative method. The study revealed that: 1) the participants mostly made post-systematic errors 2) the most frequent word mispronounced by the students are honest in the initial position, sword in the medial position as well as ballet and bufffet in the final position. There were 145 errors made by the students with the percentage of 24.17% error. Among three positions of the occurrence, the medial position was the most frequent category of error with 63 errors (31.5%), followed by 53 errors in the final position (26.5%), and 29 errors in the initial position (14.5%). The participants? first language that is, the absence of the phonotactics constraints of both English and Indonesian and the lack of knowledge of students about the pronunciation of ancient English words are the causes of error. Abstract

Skripsi adalah satu syarat yang sering dijadikan acuan oleh banyak perguruan tinggi di Indonesia. Isinya memuat suatu penelitian ilmiah dan akan dipertanggungjawabkan dalam sidang skripsi yang akan diuji oleh beberapa dosen penguji terkait validitasnya. Skripsi memuat sub-bab question of the research pada bab pertama yang akan menjembatani antara bab 1 dan bab 4. Penulisan question of the research sering mengalami kesalahan secara grammatika sehingga perlu dilakukan peneltian agar kebermanfaatannya dapat meningkatkan kualitas skripsi. Penelitian yang berjudul Analisis Kesalahan Kalimat Tanya pada Sub-Bab Question of the Research Skripsi Mahasiswa Sastra Inggris Angkatan 2020/2021 menghadirkan paparan dari kesalahan- kesalahan penulisan yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa tingkat akhir pada sub- bab question of the research. Dari 17 data yang dianalisis, terdapat 26 kali kemunculan kekeliruan dari segi omission (penghilangan), 5 kali kemunculan kekeliruan dari segi addition (penambahan), 2 kali kemunculan dari segi alternating form (bentuk pengganti), dan 1 kali kemunculan dari segi archi-form. Omission (penghilangan) yang sering terjadi pada pertanyaan penelitian para mahasiswa adalah ketiadaan dari kata kerja bantu (auxiliary verb) yang biasanya terletak setelah kata tanya

Abstract

This research focuses on 1) the classification of swearing sources used by students of STBA JIA and 2) the classification of the use of swearing proposed by students of STBA JIA. The theory used in this research is Wardhaugh's theory (1986:230); Hughes (1991:208); Rothwell (1973:108); Trudgill (1983) to classify sources and reasons or functions of swearing. This research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The data taken came from questionnaire answers by respondents consisting of 14 male students and 43 female students. This research found that there are 12 sources of swearing used by male respondents and 12 sources of swearing used by female respondents. There are a total of 12 sources of invective, consisting of 7 sources based on experts and 5 new sources. Then, regarding the reasons for using swear words, male respondents stated 16 reasons and female respondents stated 18 reasons. The total number of reasons for using swear words in this study was 24. Furthermore, related to research findings based on the classification of swear words, there is no difference in the classification of sources and the reasons for using swearing words between the reasons for male respondents and the reasons for female respondents
