Abstract

Pengaruh Pendekatan Genius Learning Berbasis Kerja Ilmiah terhadap Prestasi Belajar Fisika Ditinjau dari  Pengetahuan Awal Siswa SMPN 13 Balikpapan Tahun 2012 Abstract: student mastery of the concepts of physics would be better if teachers implement instructional strategies that can make students more active and motivated, but still maintain a constructivist. Work-Based Learning Approach Scientific Genius (GLBKI) is believed to be able to answer the demands of the development of education and facilitate students in learning physics concepts. The purpose of this study was to examine student achievement studying the Work-Based Learning Approach Genius Scientific and conventional learning. GLBKI approach to the treatment of experimental classes randomly selected and control classes conducted conventional learning. Learning achievement data collected by physics learning achievement tests. Results of the study are:  (1) there is a significant difference between student achievement through conventional learning and work-based learning approach scientific genius, (2) students who studied with GLBKI approach has physics learning achievement higher than the students who studied with conventional learning, ( 3) learning by using the Work-Based Learning Approach Scientific Genius can deliver improved student achievement is higher than the students who studied with conventional learning. Key words: work-based learning strategies genius of scientific, academic achievement, prior knowledge Abstrak: Penguasaan siswa terhadap konsep-konsep fisika akan lebih baik apabila pendidik menerap-kan strategi pembelajaran yang dapat membuat siswa lebih aktif dan termotivasi, namun tetap memper-tahankan konstruktivis. Pendekatan Genius Learning Berbasis Kerja Ilmiah (GLBKI) diyakini mampu menjawab tuntutan perkembangan pendidikan dan mempermudah siswa dalam mempelajari konsep-konsep fisika. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji  prestasi belajar siswa yang belajar dengan Pendekatan Genius Learning Berbasis Kerja Ilmiah dan pembelajaran konvensional. Perlakuan pende-katan GLBKI kepada kelas eksperimen yang dipilih secara acak dan kelas kontrol dilakukan pembelajar-an secara konvensional. Data prestasi belajar dikumpulkan dengan tes prestasi belajar fisika. Hasil penelitian adalah: (1) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara prestasi belajar siswa yang melalui pembelajaran konvensional dan pendekatan genius learning berbasis kerja ilmiah, (2) siswa yang belajar dengan pendekatan GLBKI memiliki prestasi belajar fisika yang lebih tinggi dari pada siswa yang belajar dengan pembelajaran konvensional, (3) pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Pendekatan Genius Learning Berbasis Kerja Ilmiah dapat memberikan peningkatan prestasi belajar siswa lebih tinggi dari pada siswa yang belajar dengan pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: strategi genius learning berbasis kerja ilmiah, prestasi belajar, pengetahuan awal

Abstract

The low English vocabulary mastery has caused Baitul Hijrah Orphanage’s orphans poor achievement of English. Regarding the issue, this research was conducted to find a breakthrough to help the orphans’ vocabulary improvement. In term of boosting their vocabulary need, the researcher explored English youth magazine as a media to be used. Thus, this study was aimed to examine and compare between the effects of using English youth magazine and English textbook on students' vocabulary mastery. This study assigned true-experimental research design to test the hypothesized relationship between variables. The sample of this study was 28 orphans at second grade of senior high school that were divided into control and experimental group by systematic sampling method. Data collection was vocabulary test scores results consisted of 100 multiple choice questions. The result showed that the English youth magazine usage as media could significantly improve vocabulary mastery; thus, students who were taught vocabulary using English youth magazine obtained higher scores than those who were taught vocabulary using English textbook. In conclusion, English youth magazine is a teaching aid that can be used to gain the students' vocabulary mastery.
