Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang bertujuan untukmenemukan peningkatan kemampuan speaking siswa kelas XI IPA-A padasemester genap, tahun pelajaran 2016/2017, dan siswa kelas XI IPA-B dan XIIPA-C pada semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2017/2018 di MA Miftahul UlumBettet Pamekasan melalui penggunaan teknik Picture Cued Storytelling.Disamping itu, penelitian ini juga menggambarkan proses belajar mengajartentang penggunaan teknik picture cued storytelling di kelas XI IPA MA MiftahulUlum Bettet Pamekasan.Penelitian ini dilakasanakan didalam bentuk pre-riset dan post tes padasiklus dengan mengikuti prosedur penelitian tindakan kelas, seperti tahapperencanaan, tahap implementasi, tahap pengamatan, dan tahap refleksi. Data darihasil penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui ceklis pengamatan, kuesioner, dan rubrikpenilaian speaking.Dari hasil pengamatan dan kuesioner dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswamengikuti proses belajar mengajar dengan baik, mereka bisa menunjukkan minatdan sikap percaya diri mereka terhadap materi speaking.Hasil dari penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatankemampuan speaking siswa kelas XI IPA, hal ini dapat dilihat pada persentasekesuksesan dan nilai rata-rata pada setiap siklus. Pada tahap pre-riset dijelaskanbahwa nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XI-IPA A adalah 61,44 dengan persentasekesuksean 32%, sedangkan nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XI-IPA B adalah 63,6dengan persentase kesuksesan 36,66%, dan nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XIIPAC adalah 66 dengan persentase kesuksesan 43,75%. Pada tahap siklus 1dijelaskan bahwa nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XI-IPA A adalah 75,04 denganpersentase kesuksesan 76%, sedangkan nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XI-IPA Badalah 76 dengan persentase kesuksesan 76,66%, dan nilai rata-rata KKM siswakelas XI-IPA C adalah 70, 625 dengan persentase kesuksesan 53, 125%. Padatahap siklus 2 dijelaskan bahwa nilai rata-rata KKM siswa kelas XI IPA C adalah76, 875 dengan persentase kesuksesan 84, 375%.Berdasarkan data diatas, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknikpicture cued storytelling dapat meningkatkan kemampuan speaking siswa kelasXI-IPA di MA Miftahul Ulum Bettet Pamekasan.

Abstract

This study is categorized as a classroom action research (CAR). This study proposed the use of mind mapping technique to improve the students’ writing skill on descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMA PGRI Larangan Pamekasan. The instruments of this study consisted of a scoring rubric for students’ writing skill on descriptive text, questionnaires and observation checklist. The participants of the study were 20 students at the tenth grade of SMA PGRI Larangan Pamekasan. In preliminary study, the students ‘ writing skill on descriptive text and students’ motivation were still low, it was indicated that 5 students or 25% of the students passed the minimum standard achievement/KKM (76). Therefore, the researcher tried to apply the mind mapping technique to improve the students’ writing skill on descriptive text, he found the Students’ interest in learning English , students’ activeness, students’ confidence in writing. But, most students had difficulities dealing with grammar usage and less vocabularies, it was indicated in the first cycle that 9 students or 45% of the students passed the minimum standard achievement/KKM (76). Then, the second cycle would be done by revising the teaching strategy in cycle one that stated in lesson plan by considering the students’ weaknesses they made on the writing test before. In the second cycle was proven that 16 students or 80% of the students passed the minimum standard achievement/KKM (76), and the researcher stated that the students gave better respond in the second cycle than in the first cycle, more students in the second cycle were motivated so that the classroom was more active during the class. So, the results of this research stated that the use of mind mapping technique could improve the students’ writing skill on descriptive text, and class more motivated and enjoyable.
