Abstract

This research was aimed to evaluate the effect of boiled golden snail (Pomacea canaliculata Lamarck) supplementation on duck diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp to duck performance. A total of 80 Mojosari-Peking hybrid ducks 23 days old were reared for 40 days in this study. The treatments diet was as follows: control diet and 3 treatments diet of boiled golden snail supplementation levels of 10%, 15% and 20%. This research used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. All data was analyzed by variance and if there were significantly differences, further analysis applied was a Duncan Multiple Range Test. The variables observed were duck performance (feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio) and carcass percentage. The results showed that supplementation of boiled golden snail on diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp 10%-20% significantly (p<0.05) increased body weight gain, final body weight, percentage of carcass but decreased feed conversion ratio. It can be concluded that 15% of boiled golden snail (Pomacea canilaculata Lamarck) supplementation on diet based on restaurant waste and coconut pulp can be use as diet of Mojosari-Peking Hybrid duck. Abstract

The aim of this research was to measure the effect of diet contained water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), Indigofera (Indigofera sp.), and water spinach (Ipomoea spp.) on the performance and cholesterol of turkey meat. A total of twelve male turkeys 40 weeks old with average body weight of 4798±551.78 g were reared for six weeks. This research used a Completely Randomized Design. The dietary diet treatments were consisted of 38% rice bran, 35% commercial diet, and 27% forages which consisted of E. crassipes (R1), Indigofera sp. (R2), and Ipomea spp. (R3). The variables measured were performance (feed consumption, final body weight, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, percentage of abdominal fat, carcass percentage and breast meat cholesterol levels. The results showed that E.crassipes, Indigofera sp., and Ipomea spp. in turkeys’diet did not affect on feed consumption, final body weight, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, carcass percentage, and percentage of abdominal fat. Cholesterol levels of turkey breast meat in the Indigofera dietary treatment was produced the lowest relative cholesterol levels followed by Ipomoea sp and water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipe) dietary treatments. The average cholesterol level of turkey breast meat ranges from 23- 47 mg 100 g-1. It was concluded that E.crassipes, Indigofera sp., and Ipomea spp. can be used as an alternative ingredient for adult turkey diet.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of African leaf juice supplements on the chemical properties of quail eggs. This research used 120 quails aged 8 weeks, which divided into 3 treatments and 5 replications. The experimental design used a completely randomized and the treatments were P0 : without the supplementation of African leaf juice as controls, P1: addition of 3 ml head-1 day-1 African leaf juice, and P2: addition of 6 ml head-1 day-1 African leaf juice (P2). The variables observed were moisture, ash, crude protein, ether extract, carbohydrate, malondialdehyde content (MDA), pH and water activity (Aw) in yolk and albumen. The results showed that moisture, ash, crude protein, ether extract, and carbohydrate content in egg yolks had no different effect compared to controls. Malondialdehid (MDA) content in the treatment of 3 ml head-1 day-1 and 6 ml head-1 day-1 of African leaf juice supplementation decreased 39.68% and 36.19% compared to control. Aw level in yolk and albumen significantly (p<0.05) decreased in 6 ml of African leaf juice supplementation, but no effect on the pH eggyolk and albumen. It was concluded that addition of 3 ml and 6 ml of African leaf juice head-1 day-1 could reduce the MDA content of egg yolk.
