Abstract

The established new two-sided complete group chain sampling plan (NTSCoGCh), which operates with five acceptance criteria, and the two-sided group chain sampling plan (TS-GCh), which operates with three acceptance criteria, are consumer- and producer-focused plans respectively. Since the number of acceptance criteria influences the responding probability of lot acceptance in lot inspection, this paper suggests the balanced approach of the new two-sided group chain sampling plan (NTSGCh) which operates with four acceptance criteria. The lifetime distribution of Log-logistic is used in this study, and the method of time truncated life test simulation is conducted. The findings proved that the NTSGCh performed better than the NTSCoGCh. Therefore, the NTSGCh is a worthy option for implementation in lot inspection in the manufacturing industry.

Abstract

In developing acceptance sampling plan, the mean is often the choice due to the fact that it is a good estimator. However, it is only a good estimator when dealing with symmetrical data. If the data is not symmetrical, then the mean is no longer a good estimator, but the median is. The recent two-sided group chain acceptance sampling plans (TSGChSP) has only been applied to Pareto distribution of the 2nd kind by using the mean to cater for symmetrical data. In reality, some data are actually non-symmetrical. Hence, motivated by such scenario, the aim of this study is to produce the TSGChSP for Pareto distribution of the 2nd kind by using the median. The performances of TSGChSP are measured based on minimum number of groups,  and probability of lot acceptance, . The  is calculated by satisfying the consumer’s risk while the  is obtained at several values of median ratio. Finally, the number of million revolutions for 23 ball bearings is shown in order to show the application of the TSGChSP in the industry.

Abstract

The established modified group chain acceptance sampling plans (MGChSP) only considered the consumer’s risk when developing the plans and turned down the producer’s risk, which means the established MGChSP satisfied the consumer but not the producer. Based on the above problem, this article proposes the minimum angle method for the MGChSP as the method considers both risks (consumer’s and producer’s) simultaneously. In order to develop the proposed MGChSP, the generalized exponential distribution is chosen as its lifetime distribution, and the time truncated simulation is done. The simulation produces the optimal number of groups,  at different values of specified design parameters. It turns out that the  satisfies both parties, consumer and producer, while the number of groups for the established MGChSP only satisfied the consumer. For application purpose, failure time (in hours) for computer software is used in order to demonstrate the usage of MGChSP in the industry.

Abstract

Acceptance sampling is a quality control technique widely used by companies in deciding whether or not to accept a lot or batch of products based on the inspection result of a sample taken from the lot. Majority of acceptance sampling plans are developed assuming symmetrical data distribution, whereas actual scenarios include product lifetime which is often non-symmetrical. In this article, a generalized modified group chain sampling plan (GMGChSP) based on non-symmetrical data is proposed using preceding lot information. An iterative technique is employed to find the design parameters of the proposed plan by satisfying the pre-specified consumers risks, number of testers and proportion defective. The performance of the proposed plan is compared to an established plan developed by Mughal et al. (2016b).
