Abstract

This research deals with the writing skill. The problem of the study is there the significant influence of the internet on the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text. the objective of the study is: To know is there the significant influence of the internet on the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text. Related to the research problems, the writer used writing test as an instrument. The finding of this study has proven that internet can improve the students writing ability. It can be seen from the improvement of the students’ score. The students’ average score in the (pre-test) was 58 for experimental group and 56 for control group. After the implementation of internet as media, it became 78 for experimental group. In other word, 87 already achieved scores greater than 56 as the criterion of success determined. As result internet can influence students’ achievement in writing skill. The main finding of this study shown that the student who used internet- based tasks had a good level of writing than who did not use internet in their learning process. The effect of the study indicated, interned- based writing tasks had a significant effect on students’ achievement in writing. Keywords: writing skill, writing text, analytical exposition text, interned- based writing, the influence of internet

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the implementation of riddle technique in students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out whether the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery through the riddle technique. This research was conducted at MTs Persatuan Amal Bakti (PAB) 1 Helvetia academic year 2017-2018 as the subject of researcher. The subject of this research were consisted of 49 students of the first grade in class VII-B.The research was conducted with Classroom Action Research. In conducting this classroom action research, the writer divided the action into two cycles. The instrument of collecting data were qualitative data from observation, interview, diary notes, and documentation. Quantitative data were taken from tests, which was carried out in the end of every cycle.Based on the result of this research showed that the students’ score increased from the first meeting namely cycle I until the last meeting namely cycle II. From the counting, the researcher found the mean of pre-test was 46,32, there was 8,16% (4 students) who got points up 75. In the post test cycle I, the mean was 68,67, it was higher than pre-test. There was 46,93% (23 students) who got points up 75 in post test I of cycle I. In the post test cycle II, the mean was 78,87, it was higher than post test I. There was 85,71% (42 students) who got points up 75 in post test I of cycle I. In the other words, the students’ vocabulary mastery was increased. Based on the observation, it showed that the enthusiasm and excitementof the students were also improved.Keyword : Vocabulary, Riddle Technique

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe types, processes and reasons of the conversational implicatures uttered by a five-year-old Indonesian child. The subject is the writer’s own son living in Lau Dendang, Kec Percut Sei Tuan, Kab Deli Serdang. It was a qualitative research design which was observed with a single case study. The instruments used were observation and interview. The researcher observed the subject for three months where conversation in different contexts in daily activities took place. An interview toward the subject’s care givers was conducted to get the subject’s reasons in uttering the conversational implicatures in his daily activities. The data collected were the utterances spoken by the subject in different contexts and interview. The data were analyzed by using the theory of language acquisition and conversational implicatures. The results of this study were: (1) The two types of conversational implicatures namely generalized conversational implicature involving clausal implicature and scalar implicature and particularized conversational implicature were uttered by the subject in his daily activities in different contexts. (2) The process of producing conversational implicatures occurred by flouting maxims. (3) The reasons of using conversational implicatures based on the maxim analysis were : to say opinion, to advise,  to refuse, to defend self, to make a joke, to guess, to do something soon, to inform, to say like, to ask something, to say dislike, to avoid discomfort,  to ask help, to avoid quarrel, to stay at something, to avoid the next question, to play imagination, to change like and to imitate. The reasons of using conversational implicatures based on the speakers’ background analysis was the interaction in community. Key Words : Language Acquisition, Conversational Implicatures, Flouting Maxims

Abstract

Code-mixing was mixing the other language elements into the structure of language. The purpose of this study was to describe the shape, type, and function of the use of code-mixing in the speech of President Indonesia, Mr. Ir.H.Joko Widodo.  This study used qualitative research. Based on data analysis, obtained descriptions of the use of code mixing form of words, phrases, words and clauses, description of the forms of code mixing, and the purposes of why Joko Widodo mixes the Java language into Indonesia. The achievements of this research are expected to be additional source of code mixing study and it is meant to conduct and develop such a research in the code mixing field. Keyword        : Code Mixing, Speech
