Abstract

Tulisan ini mengulas tentang perubahan bahasa dan kebudayaan Jawa di Yogyakarta. Perubahan bahasa Jawa meliputi semua aspek kebahasaan, baik fonologi (bunyi), morfologi (bentuk), sintaksis (kalimat), kosakata dan semantik (makna). Faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya perubahan bahasa adalah: perkembangan dalam ilmu dan teknologi, perkembangan sosial dan budaya, perbedaan bidang pemakaian, adanya asosiasi dan pertukaran tanggapan indera. Bahasa bukan hanya menentukan corak budaya, melainkan juga menentukan cara dan jalan pikiran manusia, sehingga mempengaruhi tingkah lakunya. Perbedaan-perbedaan budaya dan jalan pikiran manusia bersumber pada perbedaan bahasa. Karena bahasa dan budaya merupakan satu-kesatuan yang tidak dapat dipisahkan, maka ketika suatu bahasa mengalami pergeseran hal serupa juga terjadi pada budayanya. Budaya Jawa di Yogyakarta telah bergeser dalam penggunaanya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This paper introduces the steps in developing students’ self-assessment in autonomous learning. Self-assessment is used as reflection students’ knowledge and understanding and also to motivate students to learning independently. Self-assessment will help students to attain their target language by learning autonomously. There are five ways in developing students’ self assessment. They are (1) Conduct an honest review of the learning process; (2) Set the goals regarding to the learning process for a period; (3) Breaks the goals into the smaller competence for every learning time; (4) Refer back to the self-assessment to ensure that the goals are in line to improving the language skills; and (5) Conduct another self-assessment in next period to get an idea of how your goals are progressing and whether they have been an effective way to improve the language skills.

Abstract

The aim of this research study is to describe the elementary teacher education department of STAIN Gajah Putih students’ English proficiency. The proficiency was in reading, writing, speaking, andlistening. The subjects of this study are 65 students of the elementary teacher education department students in the academic year 2015/2016. The research instrument was in the form of English proficiency test. The test consists of reading, listening, writing, and speaking tests. The quantitative data were obtained from the students’ answer sheet. The descriptive statistic was used to analyze the quantitative data. The results of the study are as follow. 41.75% of the students were in the level of knowledge. It was followed by comprehension with 28.75% of the students, application with 16.75% of the students, analysis with 8.5% of the students, synthesis with 3.75% of the students, and evaluation with 0.5% of the students.
