Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism disorder marked with hyperglycemia or blood glucose increase due to an abnormality of insulin secretion or decreased work performance of insulin. One of the handlers of Diabetes Mellitus is exercise. Low impact aerobic gymnastics is a gymnastics with low to moderate intensities, easy-to-do movements, injury-free movements, rhythmic movements, non-jerking movements, and rare sudden movement. Breathing relaxation is a breathing exercise which consists of abdomen breathing and purse lip breathing to reduce stress. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of low impact aerobic gymnastics and deep breathing relaxation on blood sugar level of the diabetes mellitus elderly at Anggrek Integrated Health Post of Kartasura. This research uses quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test approach without control group design. The result of the Wilcoxon’s Test shows that the p-value was 0.000 which was less than 0.05, meaning that the administration of low impact aerobic gymnastics and deep breathing relaxation could reduce the blood sugar level of the diabetes mellitus elderly. Thus, the low impact aerobic gymnastics and deep breathing relaxation had an effect on the blood sugar level of the diabetes mellitus elderly at Anggrek Integrated Health Post of Kartasura.

Abstract

In stroke, sudden neurological and functional damage occurs due to reduced or interrupted blood flow to the brain caused by clots or plaque in the blood vessels. Stroke clients experience neuromotor deficits, causing symptoms of paralysis on one side of the body with a level of weakness, so they are at risk of constipation. Constipation is a common problem in patients. Nurses have an important role in overcoming constipation in patients who are on mechanical ventilation during treatment, one of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be done by nurses to overcome constipation is abdominal massage. Objective: Knowing the effect of swedish massage on the constipation scale in stroke Patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital. Method: This research uses the quasy experiment method with a pretest and posttest approach without control. The population in this study were stroke patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital. The sampling technique in this study was the Non-Probability Sampling technique with the total sampling technique, namely taking samples equal to the number of populations that have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria made by the researcher. The sample in this study was 20 respondents. Univariate analysis in this study consisted of respondent characteristics, constipation scale before massage and constipation scale after massage. Bivariate analysis in this study was to determine the effect of Swedish massage on constipation scale in stroke patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital. Data normality test showed pre-normal constipation (p value> 0.05), post-abnormal constipation (p value <0.00) so the data was not normal, so the bivariate test used the Wilcoxon test. Pre and post intestinal peristaltic data were normal, so the bivariate test used the Paired Sample T Test. Results: The analysis results show a p-value of 0.009. Conclusions: There is an effect of Swedish massage on the constipation scale of stroke patients.

Abstract

Childhood cancer is a non-communicable disease that affects children under 18 years of age, characterized by abnormal cell growth that spreads to surrounding tissues. Chemotherapy is one of the treatments for children with cancer. Chemotherapy works by killing cancer cells using anticancer drugs, which can cause physical, psychological, and social side effects for both patients and their families. Parents are one of the most important components in a family for a child, especially those with cancer. Chemotherapy in children with cancer often requires a long period of treatment, which can lead to psychological problems for parents, such as stress. Stress experienced by parents of children with cancer should be identified early to minimize further risks. Objective to describe the stress levels of parents with children undergoing chemotherapy. Method: This study used a quantitative design with a descriptive approach. A total of 35 respondents were included using total sampling. The study was conducted in the Tulip 6 ward of Dr. Moewardi General Hospital. The instrument used in this research was the PSS-10 questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The findings showed that the majority of parents who accompanied their children during chemotherapy experienced moderate stress levels, with 24 respondents (68.6%). Parents accompanying children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy experienced a moderate level of stress.
