Abstract

Lauril amide is one of nonionic surfactant and has potency to become an ecofriendly surfactant. The main problem on lauril amide synthesis is the low conversion of lauric acid. Optimation of lauril amide synthesis is done with three variabels which give influence of amidation reaction. One stage amidation was done by reacting lauric acid with diethanolamine using catalyst Novozyme 435® with substrate ratio lauric acid:diethanolamine 1:1; 2:1; 3:1; 4:1; 5:1, amount of catalyst 1,8; 4; 7; 10; 11,8% from lauric acid total amount, solvent ratio 0; 1:1; 2:1; 3:1; 4:1 from lauric acid total amount and reacted for 24 hours with temperature reaction 55oC and 500 rpm. Product is separated from catalyst using filtration method and then purified by washing with acetone and heated at temperature of 90 oC to remove solvent. Product has been analyzed with acid value to obtained percent conversion of lauril amide, determine of Hydrophilic Liphophilic Balance value, spectroscopy Fourier Transform Infrared and determine of critical micelle concentrasion. Percent conversion optimum has obtained 86,16% at condition substrate ratio 1:1, enzyme concentration Novozyme 435® 7% and solvent ratio 2:1. Analysis result of lauril amide surfactant gave the hidrophile liphophile balance value about 11,93, it means that lauril amide surfactant can be used as emultion oil in water.

Abstract

Azealic acid is an oleochemical product which is an output from oleic acid with oxidation cleavage process and commonly its aplication in polymer industry such as nylon production, plastic industry, glue industry and also as fiber in polyester industry. The purpose of this research is to obtain comparison design and analysis of variance in two method of synthesis azelaic acid namely one step and two steps oxidation. The result design reviewed by Response Surface Methodology using Minitab 17 trial version program with percent mass of the catalyst variable, molar ratio of the substrate variable and temperature variable. Based on the statistic analysis the percentage conversion (Y)in one step Y : 97,99 + 3,907X1 + 3,651X2 – 4,556X3 – 1,467X12 – 4,299X22 – 4,453X32 + 0,57X1X2 + 0,63X1X3 + 1,37X2X3 and for two steps Y : 98,505 + 6,164X2 + 2,164X3-7,83X22-5,18X32. The design has R2 = 92,80 % for one step and 89,95 % in two steps.

Abstract

Surfactant is a molecule which has hydrophilic group and a lipophilic group which can unify a mixture consisting of water and oil. Alkanolamide is a type of widely used nonionic surfactant for various purposes. In this study, we observed the effect of temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of palmitoyl ethanolamide surfactant from palmitic acid and lauroyl ethanolamide from lauric acid with zirconium (IV) chloride as catalyst in mixed solvent. This research was conducted using amidation reaction at temperature variation of 55oC, 65oC, 75oC, 85oC and 95oC, reaction time variation of 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, and 5 hours, mole substrate ratio at 1:10, solvent ratio at 2: 1 (v / b), catalyst concentration 5% (w/w), and stirring rate at 250 rpm. Then the product was analyzed by FT-IR spectrophotometry. Based on this research, the optimum condition to synthesis palmitoyl ethanolamide surfactant was obtained at 55 oC and temperature 65 oC to synthesis lauroyl ethanolamide surfactant at reaction time of 3 hours for both of them.

Abstract

Surfactant is a molecule which has hydrophilic group and a lipophilic group which can unify a mixture consisting of water and oil. Stearamide is one kind of surfactant non-ionic which has used on any aplication. This study aims to know about optimum of temperature and time on synthesis of stearamide from stearic acid and urea with zirconium (IV) chloride in mixed solvent. This study will be observed the effect of temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of stearamide surfactant from stearic acid and urea with zirconium (IV) chloride as catalyst in mixed solvent. This research was conducted at temperature of 45°C, 55°C, 65°C, 75°C, 85°C and 95°C, reaction time of 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr, 4 hr, 5 hr, 6 hr, 7 hr and 8 hr, substrate molar ratio at 1:6 (w/w), solvent ratio at 2:1 (v/v), weight of catalyst 3% (%w), and stirring speed at 250 rpm. Based on this research, the optimum condition to synthesis stearamide surfactant was obtained at 85 oC and reaction time at 3 hours.
