Abstract

While Wittgenstein is not famous for his writings on religion, it iscertainly possible to interpret his work in such a way that it can beapplied to religion. As Wittgenstein's work is generally divided inearly and late work, this paper provides two interpretationregarding religion. His early work – Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus – can be considered a form of negative theology.His later work – Philosophical Investigations – offers ananthropologic method, i.e. the language game, that can be appliedto religion.

Abstract

The self and the city interrelate; both the self and the city arereflexive projects. Moreover, these reflexive projects aredialectally interrelated. Identity is not expressed in actions but(per-)formed through actions. Performativity entails a dialogue,with others and with the urban environment. The meaning ofthe self is public and shown in its created forms: the city.Knowledge is grounded not in theory but in practice, i.e.knowledge of the city is shown in social practices, styles andforms. The unforeseen and unwanted consequences of theurban risk society cause anxiety, which in turn causessegregation, exclusion and architecture of fear. To overcomethis, we citoyens need creativity as a virtue; the density of amegalopolis could also lead to an innovative attitude, hence theexperiences of the creative communities in Bandung.

Abstract

Untuk Indonesia abad 21 pertanyaan penting adalah bagaimana mengelola pluralisme secara demokratis dan beradab. Suatu Negara demokratis tentu memerlukan masyarakat yang madani, namun yang sering dilupakan, terutama dalam Negara-negara pasca-otoritarian, adalah bahwa masyarakat yang madani membutuhkan penegakan hukum. Secara teoretis hampir takada konsep yang jelas ihwal masyarakat madani itu, yang menyulitkan penelitian empiris. Maka artikel ini menggunakan pandangan dari wilayah ilmu politik dan filsafat politik untuk mendapatkan gambaran lebih jelas tentang situasi Indonesia saat ini.

Abstract

Kebebasan berekspresi diperlukan agar semua warga dapat dirangkul. Terutama kaum minoritas perlu diberi peluang agar mereka dimungkinkan pula mengekspresikan dirinya di depan umum. Untuk itu dibutuhkan suatu kesepakatan terutama untuk menyikapi ketidaksepakatan. Maka netralitas Negara dan keutamaan toleransi adalah hal-hal yang layak dipertahankan dan dipahami ulang.

Abstract

Penghargaan atas kebebasan berbicara haruslah memungkinkan individu melawan arus umum. Tapi dalam demokrasi dimana posisi hukum lemah, melawan pendapat umum bisa dianggap immoral dan karenanya layak dihukum. Sokrates dan Niezsche menganggap penelaahan pengetahuan dan nilai-nilai sebagai tugas filosofis mereka. Pencarian kebenaran dan nilai-nilai baru adalah cara untuk menjadi matang sebagai individu. Etika macam ini tak bisa jalan tanpa horison sosial. Mempertanyakan horizon itu justru akan memperkuatnya. Ketidakmampuan mempertanyakan hal itu, dan ketakutan kehilangan pondasi, adalah tanda kelemahan. Kebenaran dan nilai tak boleh diserahkan kepada pemerintah atau sistem hukum semata, melainkan perlu selalu dikaji dengan kritis-teliti dalam kerangka masyarakat sipil.
