Abstract

EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) Project is a project in which the process of design, procurement and construction are carried out by a construction company. The complexity of EPC project resulted in many uncertainties that must be addressed by the project implementers. To anticipate the risk of cost overruns due to the uncertainty, project implementers need to prepare the unexpected costs. Currently, implementation of contingency estimation is done by directly increasing project costs by 5% -10%; while in theory, the amount of the contingency cost is estimated using Montecarlo simulation techniques. This simulation techniques, despite widely used, still has the disadvantage. Risks are assumed by providing lower and upper limit values of the cost of the risks that might occur in the project activity. In fact, every activity has different risk and different weights of impact. The objective of this research is to create a contingency-based cost estimation model by considering the types of risk and its impact on project activity. Project Risks were obtained from preliminary surveys and literature studies. Probability weights were analyzed using probability-Impact matrix and pair-wise comparison. Contingency cost calculation was done using Montecarlo simulations. For the purpose of model validation, procurement & Gas Piping Distribution project in Greater Jakarta was used as case study. The results of case study simulation showed that the contingency cost is 4.57% of the project budget, with a deviation of 0.82%. The accuracy test of the model against the actual cost of the project showed 0.63% difference to the simulation results. Therefore the proposed model is proved has good accuracy. Abstract

Earned Value method (EV) has several weaknesses which makes it difficult to optimally apply in the construction projects. This study aims to identify the shortcomings of Earned Value related to the project cost and time performance. Literature study was conducted from the various sources related to the EV topic. The result shows that the main weakness of Earned Value method are: EV prediction method is assumed deterministic, linear, non-dynamic and does not accommodate uncertainty factors of time and cost of construction projects.   Keywords: construction  project, time and cost performance, earned value

Abstract

Abstract

Sustainable development has become a key focus in addressing the challengesof climate change and environmental degradation. One crucial solution in achievingsustainable development is the implementation of green buildings. This study aimstoidentify and analyze the barriers and challenges encountered in the implementationof green buildings in both government and private projects. The findings of this researchare expected to be useful for local governments in formulating effective strategiestoincrease the number of green buildings in the city. In this research, the variablesof barriers and challenges are obtained through a literature review of international anddomestic journals that examine the obstacles and challenges in the implementationof green buildings. The study will employ several methods, including the RelativeImportance Index (RII), to identify the most influential barriers and challenges totheimplementation of green buildings. The respondents in this study are stakeholdersinvolved in the development of Gresik City, including government officials, consultants, and contractors. The results of this study are expected to identify the main barriersandchallenges in the implementation of green buildings in Gresik City. The results of thisresearch show that the 3 largest ranking barriers variables are the practice of illegal levies in obtaining permits, the limited number of BGH consultants, the opportunitytobe invited to government tenders needs to be increased. Meanwhile, the 3 largest ranking challenge variables are limited research on environmentally friendly buildingwork methods, lack of investment in environmentally friendly materials, limitededucational infrastructure for trained teachers.

Abstract

EPC project performance is affected by the relation between work processes. E-procurement implemented as a tool to mitigate procurement process risk gives a positive effect and residual risk that needs to be managed further. This research aims to analyze the e-procurement process risk and identify the root causes of critical risks. Data is collected using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and a questionnaire by 41 e-procurement practitioners from 5 (five) Indonesian construction state-owned enterprises (BUMN). There are 116 risks identified from 22 e-procurement steps, of which three risks are determined as critical risks based on Risk Priority Number analysis, with delay of material requisition document as the highest RPN risk. Fault Tree Analysis identifies that several failure modes, such as miscalculation, misallocation of workforce, and payment issues cause the critical risk. Preparing an in-house engineering team to support the calculation process can mitigate two critical risks at the same time. Risk mitigation causes a residual risk that needs further assessment to determine the proper response.

Abstract

The complexity and dynamics of Design-Build projects require stakeholders in the Construction Industry to better understand each party's roles and responsibilities to achieve success. The criterion of project success and the factors affecting it is a dynamic mutual relationship. This study proposes a causal loop diagram model to provide an overview of the influence of the Owner's role in achieving the Port Infrastructure Design-Build project's cost, time and quality success. Research variables were obtained through in-depth literature studies and interviews with project owners and project practitioners experienced in design-build projects.
