Abstract

The failure of teaching and learning process is as the result of the failure of managing the class and this becomes the crucial issue as the teachers still ignore to organize or create conducive atmosphere as well through the factors and process of what goes inside of the class. This study is aimed at finding out the teachers’ belief classroom management as the key success of English language teaching. This study employed as a qualitative study which used two data collection techniques; teacher survey and open-ended questionnaire with twelve English teachers in Lampung. After the data being analyzed, the finding revealed that the teachers’ belief of classroom management is as very important aspect of teaching and the process that teachers should deal with in the classroom with their students. The essential belief is that how teachers keep balance among the method and the management itself and the students’ needs can be taken as consideration for taking the strategies. The teachers’ beliefs are changed since they are pre-service teachers because their life experience, teaching experience, reading and professional development, changes in belief and strategies, and necessity to change. The most common annoying student infractions for English teachers have to deal are disturbing other, lazy students in the class, making noisy, bullying, forgetting the lesson, dependent students during the test, asking without raising hand and inappropriate words. The discipline procedures and strategies implemented by English teachers are verbal or non-verbal cues and warnings, establishing class routines, changing teachers’ attitude to routines, punitive behavior management, and conference with students, behavior plan and positively reinforced behavior management strategies and administrative intervention. The further study can be conducted by looking at another aspect in large scope of research and comparing between teachers with their different culture and educational background.

Abstract

Motivation plays a critical role in second language acquisition, particularly in developing listening skills, which are often overlooked in traditional ESL classrooms. This study examines the role of Randall’s ESL-Lab, a digital learning platform, in enhancing student motivation and engagement in listening activities. Data were collected through structured interviews with five participants from the English Teaching Department at UIN Walisongo. The findings reveal that the platform’s interactive features, level-based exercises, and accessibility significantly improve students' listening skills and foster a proactive approach to independent learning. Participants reported increased motivation to engage with English both in and outside the classroom, highlighting the platform's ability to make learning enjoyable and flexible. This study underscores the importance of integrating digital tools like Randall’s ESL-Lab into ESL instruction to enhance student motivation and listening comprehension. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impacts and broader applications of such digital tools in language learning.

Abstract

Listening skills are a crucial component of English language learning, encompassing the understanding of intonation, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Listening is a fundamental part of daily communication and one of the most essential language skills. This study explores enhancing students' listening skills using English songs available on the Spotify application. Listening to songs transcends mere entertainment; it offers an engaging and effective medium for learning English. By utilizing Spotify's extensive library of songs and its integrated lyrics feature, students can improve their listening skills in an enjoyable and accessible manner. Furthermore, this method helps students better comprehend native English speakers, fostering linguistic proficiency and cultural familiarity. Employing brainstorming and interviews as research methodologies, this qualitative research highlights the benefits and challenges of integrating Spotify into the learning process. Results indicate that songs increase student motivation and improve listening comprehension, making Spotify a valuable tool for language acquisition.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the effectiveness of infographics in learning in higher education, as well as the challenges and perceptions of students. A qualitative method was conducted in the research, and employing the structured interviews that involving UIN Walisongo students who applied infographics in their learning. The research results revealed that infographics increase student’s understanding and engagement, with image and color visualization that assisted in elevating the absorption of information. The challenges found were infographic designs that were dense or less structured. The findings recommend to display in simple, clear design and concise text. In conclusion, infographics are effective in conveying complex material.
