Abstract

Emotion regulation is a skill that develops rapidly in early childhood. Previous research reported that parents play an important role in the development of children's emotion regulation, especially through emotion socialization. This study aims to examine the effect of emotion socialization by mother and father on children’s emotion regulation. Emotion socialization in this study includes the socialization of emotions through parental expression of emotions, parental response to the expression of negative emotions of children, and parental emotion coaching. Participants were 98 pairs of 4-6 years old kindergarten students and their parents. The measurement used Indonesian version of four instruments, includes Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire (SEFQ), Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale (CCNES), Subscale Coaching of Maternal Emotional Styles Questionnaire (MESQ), and Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC). The results of multiple regression analysis showed F value of 2.114 (p=0.043). In conclusion, the socialization of emotions by mother and father through emotional expression, responses to child's emotional expression, and emotion coaching, simultaneously affect child's emotional regulation. The contribution of parental emotion socialization to children’s emotional competence is 16%, while the remaining 84% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.

Abstract

Early childhood is known as a critical period in the human life span. For this reason, optimization of early childhood development needs to be done in all aspects, including emotional aspects. In the preschool period, children's emotional development develops rapidly, namely in emotion knowledge, emotion expression, and emotion regulation. Parents, especially mothers, play an important role in child’s emotional development, one of which is through emotion coaching. According to the parental meta-emotion theory, emotion coaching includes parents' awareness of their own emotions and children's emotions. Parents who apply emotion coaching perceive children's negative emotions as important, are sensitive to children's emotional conditions, respect children's emotions, and use emotional situations constructively. In the process of interaction between parents and children, parents' reactions cannot be separated from the influence of their cultural values. However, research on emotion coaching by parents in the Indonesian context is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to obtain an overview of emotion coaching for mothers in Surabaya who have preschool aged children. Subjects were 147 mothers of children aged 3-6 years who attend Playgroup/ Kindergarten. The results showed that the majority of mothers (92%) showed a low level of emotion coaching. The discussion is related to the cultural framework. The results of the research can be further developed, for example exploring the cultural values of each ethnicity that contribute to emotion coaching, building models or emotion coaching interventions that are appropriate to the cultural context for parents in Indonesia.

Abstract

Aspek emosi sangat penting untuk distimulasi sejak usia dini agar kecerdasan emosi anak dapat berkembang secara optimal. Melalui pengembangan kecerdasan emosi, keterampilan sosial anak akan mengalami peningkatan, demikian pula prestasi akademiknya (aspek intelektual), sehingga pada akhirnya akan mendukung kesiapan anak untuk sekolah.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas pelatihan pendidikan emosi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman Bunda PAUD mengenai stimulasi kecerdasan emosi pada anak usia dini. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen. Subjek adalah 34 orang Bunda PAUD dari berbagai wilayah Surabaya. Hasil uji perbedaan skor pre test dan skor post test menunjukkan nilai t sebesar -4.359 pada p = 0.000. Artinya, ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada perubahan tingkat pemahaman subjek mengenai stimulasi kecerdasan emosi antara sebelum dan setelah memperoleh pelatihan. Kesimpulannya adalah pelatihan pendidikan emosi efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman Bunda PAUD mengenai stimulasi kecerdasan emosi pada anak usia dini.

Abstract

Bermain sangat penting dalam kehidupan anak. Oleh karena itu orangtua perlu memahami hal tersebut, sebab orangtua berperan penting dalam menstimulasi perkembangan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas penerapan prinsip adult learning dalam pelatihan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman orangtua mengenai pentingnya bermain sambil belajar bagi anak usia prasekolah. Materi pelatihan mencakup aspek perkembangan masa kanak-kanak awal, manfaat bermain, prinsip bermain sambil belajar, dan peran orangtua dalam mengoptimalkan perkembangan anak, yang didiskusikan berdasarkan teori dan refleksi pengalaman subjek sebagai orangtua. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan prinsip adult learning dalam pelatihan efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman orangtua mengenai pentingnya bermain sambil belajar bagi anak prasekolah.

Abstract

The sudden death of a loved one is a painful experience, especially for young women who face their own challenges, such as financial issues and marriage. The abrupt loss of a father can lead to complex grief. In such situations, resilience is crucial for individuals to endure and rise from adversity. Resilience is the ability to adjust, adapt, endure, and recover from hardships. This research aims to explore the dynamics of resilience in women during emerging adulthood who lost their fathers to a heart attack, using a qualitative research method and a phenomenological approach. The findings indicate three phases the participants faced in achieving resilient personalities: the initial, adjustment, and resurgence phases. The initial stage encompasses disbelief reactions, while the adjustment phase entails endeavors to return to previous circumstances. The resurgence phase is marked by the ability to rebound, find positivity, spiritual insights, psychological growth, a desire for personal improvement, positive outlooks, and managing persisting challenges. Factors that contribute to resilience include social support, empathy, emotional control, and freedom from societal expectations. Additionally, specific elements such as peer encouragement, mental health awareness, humor, and mindset play significant roles. Attachment to the deceased father can heighten an individual's vulnerability to grief.

Abstract

There are many challenges that must be faced by a single mother. A single mother is susceptible to stress and frustration. The purpose of this case study was to explore the meaning of life of a single mother. Data collecting method employed was in-depth interview and observation to a working mother who had been a single mother for more than 5 years. The finding of the study is the subject can overcome the challenging situation due to external and internal factors, so that the subject can develop an adaptive coping strategy. The process of life as a single mother finally leads the subject to have a positive meaning of life as a single mother that her life is to give happiness to her child and her family, and that being a single mother leads her to achieve personal maturity. Terdapat banyak tantangan yang harus dihadapi seorang single mother, yang seringkali membuatnya menjadi rentan terhadap stress dan frustasi. Studi kasus ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengeksplorasi makna hidup pada seorang single mother. Metode pengumpulan data adalah melalui in-depth interview dan observasi pada seorang ibu bekerja yang telah menjalani hidupnya sebagai single mother selama lebih dari 5 tahun. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah subjek mampu mengatasi berbagai tantangan karena adanya sejumlah faktor eksternal dan internal, sehingga subjek mampu mengembangkan strategi coping yang adaptif. Proses hidup sebagai seorang single mother akhirnya menghantarkan subjek pada pemaknaan hidup yang positif sebagai single mother, yaitu bahwa hidupnya adalah demi kebahagiaan anak dan keluarga, dan bahwa menjadi seorang single mother telah menempanya untuk mencapai kematangan pribadi.
