Abstract

This study determined the effect of work-family conflict on workers absenteeism in selected hotels in Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria. A cross-sectional research design and convenience sampling technique were adopted. A questionnaire was employed as the research instrument for this study with 73 respondents deemed usable. Spillover theory was employed as the theoretical framework to guide the study. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the study revealed that work-family conflict and burnout have positive significant influence on workers’ absenteeism, while work-family balance has no significant effect on workers’ absenteeism in selected hotels in Abraka, Delta State. Thus, the study recommends among others that managers of hotels in Abraka should develop and implement, family-friendly policies such as flexi-time, compressed work week and dependent care assistance in order to eliminate or reduced both involuntary and voluntary absenteeism among the workers.

Abstract

In today’s ‘new normal’ in which competition is at an unpredictable speed like light, service quality and customer satisfaction are critical concepts that any service provider needs to remain competitive and sustain growth. Quality service delivery and customer satisfaction are the sword and shield of competition needed to fortify an organization to be better than the best. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction in banking sector in Benin City, Edo State. The study adopted the SERVQUAL model as the main framework for analyzing service quality. Multiple regression analysis with the aid of statistical package for social science (SPSS) vision 21 was used to examine the relationships between service quality variables and customer satisfaction. The sample size of four hundred and twenty (420) was selected from the population of study through convenience sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the needed information from the sampled respondents. Out of the 420 sample, only 292 usable questionnaires were retrieved. The results of the study showed that all service quality variables were good predictors of customer satisfaction. Customer’s positive perception is an index with exponential effects on the profitability and brand’s acceptance value proposition. To drive this strategic core value, this study provide an insight into how business and individual performance indicators can utilize the performance management tools, processes, procedure and people to close service gaps with the aim to unlock the hearts, minds and purses of customers through superior service/product that can exponentially optimize productivity and profitability. The study recommends among others that management should get rid of bureaucracy. Quality should be seen as a way of life and all blockades should be removed to ensure a holistic approach in the manner intangible service is delivered.

Abstract

This study examines national information communication technology policy and its impact on teaching quality in Nigerian universities. This study adopted qualitative research design as it relies on secondary data collected from books, journal articles and internet sources, and were content  analyzed in relation to the scope of the study. This study is anchored on Technology Organization Environment model which offers analytical explanations on information communication technology policy implementation and teaching quality in higher educational institutions. The study concludes that the integration of information communication technology into educational system has been identified as a critical catalyst to achieving quality of teaching and learning across the globe, and since academic quality is the primary objective of Nigerian universities and has been pursued traditionally for decades, it thus becomes important to source for role or outcome specific technologies that can be used to substitute or improve the traditional teaching practices. This study therefore recommends among others that Nigeria government should intensify effort to invest more on information communication technology infrastructures aimed at improving teaching quality in Nigerian universities.

Abstract

This study examined influence organisational structure on business growth of pharmaceutical industry in Delta State. A cross-sectional research design and convenience sampling technique were adopted. A questionnaire was employed as the research instrument for this study with 109 respondents deemed usable. The autopoietic systems theory was used to explain how organisational structure might enhance business growth in Nigerian manufacturing firms. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 23.0 was used to perform descriptive and inferential statistics, correlation analysis, and simple regression analysis on the collected data.The results of the study revealed that organisational structure has a very strong positive and significant relationship with business growth. The study confirmed what was expected by demonstrating that organisational structure has a positive, significant impact on the expansion of the pharmaceutical sector in Delta State. The study's findings suggest that, in order to improve business growth, management in Nigeria's pharmaceutical industry should create the proper organisational structures to increase worker productivity and working conditions. In order to promote business growth, the study advises management in the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry to use formalised, a lower layer of organisational hierarchy, technology, and loose boundaries.

Abstract

This study investigates how diversity management affects Russian language instruction at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria. Data gathered from 50 Nigerian employees working in the Russian Embassy in Lagos and Abuja was used for this study and the sample size was not based on gender bias. Questionnaire was distributed randomly, and the data were analyzed using percentage and frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's product moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis with the help of the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS version 23.0, 2020). According to the study's findings, diversity management significantly improved organizational learning effectiveness and the learning of Russian language in the Russian Embassy in Lagos and Abuja. The study's findings, which include a recommendation that the management of the Russian Embassy in Nigeria should make available a platform for the use of films, audios, music, or songs as learning tools for the Russian language, will motivate employees and subsequently improve their language skills. The study demonstrated that diversity management can improve organizational learning effectiveness, bring about competitive advantage, and enhance Russian language learning in Nigeria. Therefore, the management at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria will find this study useful. The study will, nevertheless, be useful for those who wish to learn more about workplace diversity and how to handle it.

Abstract

Nigeria has gone through different phases in the shrinking of her public service through various forms of privatization of public enterprises. The efficiency of these privatized enterprises since the policy commenced is still left in doubts due to major failures and sometimes, the extinction of some of these organizations. Against this backdrop, this study examines the impact of the concession model of privatization policy on the public service delivery in Nigeria. This paper adopted the analytical method and relies on secondary data and utilizes the content analysis for interpretation of data collected. The paper relied on the public choice theory to posit that the main purpose of government as a service agency is to extend to the people certain essential services on a fair and equitable basis without delay. The paper therefore concludes that Concession model of privatization policy remains a major key to significant improvement in the public service delivery in Nigeria.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of employee voice behavior on organizational climate of manufacturing firms in Nigeria. It used a cross-sectional survey research design and Data were gathered as of February 21, 2023, from middle and lower level employees of manufacturing companies registered under the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, Delta Edo Chapter. Ten businesses with a combined staff of 2,017 were chosen for the study's purposes. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample of 334 employees was created and only 287 responses were retrieved. After a multicollinearity test and correlation matrix revealed no collinearity issues, the hypothesis were tested with linear regression. Results of hypothesis tested showed that participation has positive significant relationship with organizational climate. Additionally, a positive, significant relationship between involvement and organizational climate was discovered. According to the study's findings, employee voice behavior that is measured in terms of participation and involvement enhances the organizational climate, which fosters coworker support, management recognition, creativity, and equity among all group members. The study advises manufacturing firms' top management to recognize the necessity of regularly involving middle and lower level employees in their decision-making processes, whether directly or through advisory participation, in order to continuously increase organizational effectiveness.

Abstract

Organisations face the challenge of establishing ways to mitigate the negative effects of work during coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic. As a result work-family balance was disrupted and negatively affected the employees’ well-being especially working women. Against this backdrop, this study examined work-family balance of women working from home during covid-19 pandemic. Cross sectional research design was employed and data were collected via a survey of 126 from medical, education, banking, and finance and service sectors in Nigeria. The 126 women were selected using simple random sampling technique and data collected was analysed using simple percentage. The study revealed that women were satisfied by working remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study recommends among others that organisations and government should develop and implement work-family balance policies that would promote the increasing use of remote working arrangement with special reference to working women.
