Abstract

Malnutrition in children under 5 years of age is still one of the leading health problems in Indonesia. Early detection of malnutrition in children is vital to allow early intervention. Unfortunately, parents' awareness of the importance of routine nutritional status assessments of their children is still low. Thus, malnutrition in children tends to be recognized late and leads to stunting. The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Medicine, Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar, conducted a nutritional status assessment for children in Banjar Jagatamu aiming at detecting malnutrition in children as well as increasing parental awareness of the importance of routine nutritional status assessment for their children. In total, 27 children aged 0-5 years underwent height, weight, and head circumference assessment to determine their nutritional status. Then, parents received personal counseling with a pediatrician to answer their questions and increase parental knowledge regarding the problem of malnutrition in children. In this social service, there were 10 children (37.0%) with undernutrition and three children (11.11%) with stunting. This social service received a positive response from the community and proved that education and sustainable child health services are still very much needed in Banjar Jagatamu, Meliling Village, Tabanan

Ear and hearing health is an important thing that needs special attention. Disorders of the ear and hearing can cause several disorders, such as ear infections, balance problems, and even permanent hearing loss. Abstract

The ear is one of the five main senses in the human body. The ear has a primary function as a sense of hearing which is very necessary in facilitating communication between humans. Ear and hearing diseases are very often missed and overlooked. Patients rarely go for treatment because they consider it trivial or are even unaware of the disease in their ears or hearing, unless their daily activities are disrupted or they experience communication disorders. The Indonesian government through the National Strategic Plan (RENSTRANAS) recorded that the most common cause of morbidity in outer ear disease is cerumen block/cerumen obsturans at 4.6%, and middle ear disease is Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) of the benign type at 3% (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). The World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 5% of the world's population has hearing loss (432 million adults and 34 million children) (WHO, 2021). This outreach event is focused on supporting the Sound Hearing 2030 program, where one of the main focuses is to eradicate hearing loss due to cerumen block/cerumen obsturans. The counseling was held in Banjar Jagatamu, Meliling Village, Kerambitan - Tabanan, by lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine, Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar, involving local residents
