The Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is a learning concept that helps educators relate subject matter to students' real-world situations and encourages students to make connections between their knowledge and its application in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to describe how the implementation of learning with the CTL approach and find out student responses in an effort to improve students' ability to write News Items. The subjects in this study were students of class XII IPS 2 SMA Negeri 7 Denpasar for the 2022/2023 academic year. The object of this research is the study of learning analysis using the CTL approach and students' responses to the ability to write news items. This study used two cycles, and each cycle went through four stages of activity, namely (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) evaluation and reflection. Data collection techniques in this study are using test and observation methods. The results of the action research showed that (1) there was an increase in learning with the CTL approach which was declared successful in increasing each cycle in students' ability to write News Items. (2) there is a positive response from learning using the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach that can increase the response of class XII IPS 2 students of SMA Negeri 7 Denpasar in the 2022/2023 academic year in the ability to write News Items.
