Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the students’ difficulties in comprehending English reading narrative text. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade IPA 1 students of SMA Negeri 6 Sigi. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The instruments were test and interview. The test was used to gain data of the students’ difficulties in comprehending reading text. Furthermore, the interview was used to support the data about the students’ difficulties in comprehending reading text. The finding showed that the students’ difficulties are lack of vocabulary, low ability in comprehending narrative text, not have enough understanding about the general structure and types of narrative text, have no interest in English reading text, bored in reading English texts, and difficulties used past tense in narrative text. In other words, the students at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 6 Sigi still got difficulties in comprehending reading narrative text.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the ability of the 4th semester students of English department in writing descriptive paragraph. The subject of the research is the 4th semester students in academic year of 2017 consisting of seven students. This research used qualitative descriptive method.Written test and interview as techniques of data collection, and technique of data analysis were used percentage that was described qualitatively. Research finding shows that the mean score of the seven students is 77. Three of the seven students got 81, 82, 89.They belonged to excellent and good categories, and four students got 71, 72,74 and 66, they belonged to enough and poor categories. The result of interview indicated the seven students have different difficulties or problems; most the students faced problems on content and language uses.

Abstract

This research was a correlation study with two variables – variable X standing for motivation and variable Y standing for achievement. The purpose of this study was to find out is there any positive correlation between motivation and achievement in leraning English especially for the pupils of grade six at SDN inpres 3 Birobuli. The data were collected by using documentation and questionnaire. Then, they were analyzed descriptively. Through questionnaire and pupils’ learning result, it was found that the level of correlation between variable X and Y was strong enough, there was positive correlation between variable X and Y since the value of r-counted (0,475) was higher than the value of r-table (0,235). Meaning the higher motivation they get the better achievement they have.Â
