Abstract

Learning motivation is an important milestone for students since it provides the needed energy for students to achieve the learning goals with full attention and totality and to interpret the learning process that has been delivered through the learning activities. The purpose of this paper is to explore the implementation of the Project-based Learning model on student motivation in Grade VIII. The author's research subject is students in Grade VIII B, consisting of 13 students. The author uses research data from the results of the teaching’s portfolio and data triangulation (questionnaires, interviews, and observations). The findings of this research indicate that students’ motivation in Grade VIII B was improving. This improvement was shown through the indicators of student motivation during a series of teaching-learning processes in class. Through the implementation of the Project-based Learning model, teachers create learning environments and activities that are interesting, innovative, and relevant to the learning process of students in the classroom. Based on the results of the author's research, it is concluded that the implementation of Project-based Learning model can increase student motivation. The motivation to learn enables students to view and to participate in the learning process to be accountable to God as God's responsible co-workers. It is hoped that the teacher can apply the Project-based Learning model to help students with low learning motivation in class.

Abstract

Teachers and students, while created in the image of God, are fallen. Student inactivity affects the learning process in the classroom. Students who are active in the classroom can increase the success of the learning process and student achievement. A Christian teacher should use a perspective based on Christian educational philosophy in looking at problems that occur in the classroom and how to overcome them. The researcher conducted a study over 5 weeks with grade 9 students at a school in Jember. The researcher found that the 9th graders were less active during the Biblical studies learning process. The researcher used the Socratic method as a solution to deal with this problem. The purpose of this study is to describe whether the Socratic method can influence student activity. The research method used is the descriptive qualitative method. The research results indicate that the Socratic method can increase student activity during the learning process. This is verified by fulfilment of five indicators of instruments measurement used by researcher. Suggestions for future research are that the questions given to students should be varied.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Guru dan murid adalah citra Allah yang telah jatuh. Ketidakaktifan siswa mempengaruhi proses pembelajaran di kelas. Padahal siswa yang aktif di dalam kelas dapat meningkatkan keberhasilan proses pembelajaran dan prestasi siswa. Seorang guru Kristen seharusnya menggunakan cara pandang yang berlandaskan pada filosofi pendidikan Kristen dalam melihat permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas dan bagaimana cara mengatasinya. Peneliti melakukan penelitian selama 5 minggu di kelas 9 di sebuah sekolah di Jember. Peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa kelas 9 kurang aktif selama proses pembelajaran studi Alkitab. Peneliti menggunakan metode pengajaran sokrates sebagai solusi untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan apakah metode pengajaran sokrates dapat mempengaruhi keaktifan siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode pengajaran sokrates dapat meningkatkan aktivitas siswa selama proses pembelajaran. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan terpenuhinya lima indikator pengukuran instrumen yang digunakan peneliti. Saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya adalah pertanyaan yang diberikan kepada siswa harus bervariasi.
